Question about Maytag Atlantis MDE7400AY Electric Dryer

1 Answer

My dryer makes a squealing sound when running. I believe it's the belt on the tensioner pulley, but I have no idea how to get to the darn thing.

There is no easy way, but its more time consuming really. I'm not familiar with your particular dryer, but you''ll need to remove the top and front casing of your dryer and remove the drum to get to the pulley. Sometimes you can get to it via a compartment on the rear of the dryer as well. Also listen to make sure the squealing isn't coming from the drum bearings on the rear of the drum.

Dryer is making a high pitched squealing sound when started, this stops after it runs for about 5-10mins

The belt tension adjustment is allowing too much slack so the belt slips on the motor pulley.

My whirlpool dryer makes a horribly loud racket. Is the idler pulley or the tension pulley

There is only 1 pulley in most driers, so the idler and the tension pulley are the same part. The idler pulley is on the tension arm, located beneath the drum. A squealing sound is usually associated with the pulley. If it is a slapping or thumping sound it may be the belt, which goes around the drum and the motor shaft. The part numbers are on the parts, or you can order by model. The idler is less than $10.

I have a 2004 Chevy silverado1500 truck, with a chirping now kind of squealing serpentine belt, I changed the belt the idler pulley and belt tensioner it worse for a day after I change something then comes...

If you replaced the belt, tensioner and pulley then you have "glazed" a pulley. There are 2 very easy fixes to try. The first one is to hold a bar of soap on the under (grooved) side of the pulley while the vehicle is idling. Obviously extreme care is required while doing this. If that doesn't get rid of the squealing, spray carburetor or brake cleaner on the under side of the belt while it's idling. That should do it.

Maytag electric dryer is making a high pitched noise

The squealing noise is from the belt tensioner. Replace the pulley only on the tensioner along with a new belt. The bearing in the pulley is causing the squeal. Sears will sell this in a kit. The top and the front panel of the dryer will have to be removed to replace these parts

My kenmore dryer is making a squealing noise. It is 5 to 7 years old

This sounds like it could be the tensioner pulley is worn or needs a drop of oil, or the drum rollers need the same. If they are worn too much they will need replaced. If the tensioner pulley is stiff, replace the belt as well.

Squeal under hood 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT (3.8 L)

I would start with a belt. While removing it feel how much tension the tensioner has on it, on the 3800 egnine they have a stiff tensioner(sorry I don't have any specs for how much) After you get the belt off you can look at all of the pulleys and spin them to see if the bind or look for stuff stuck in the grooves on the pulleys.
It sounds to me like the belt is streched. I would not recommend one of those gator back belts, they seem to make more noise sooner than a good v notch belt. But thats just my opinion!

You need to replace the tensioner assembly, not just the pulley.....

Loud noise when dryer runs

Two items on two different dryers can make this noise. One is the belt tensioner pulley and the other is the bearing on a Frigidaire dryer.
