Oil in the barrel an air gun can lead to bad things, If you are worried about corrosion, lube with light oil then remove as much as possible with a dry swab. It doesn't take much to provide corrosion protection. I rarely clean or lube my air rifles, maybe 2 times/year or every 1,000 shots. It really is not necessary unless your accuracy deteriorates.

Here is an excellent article dealing with this issue:

My gun works but has been stored for about 30 years. What maintenance should I perform?

what sort of gun is it ( vital information)
if it is a gun that uses live ammo , the a clean barrel bore is a must as any rust or obstruction will have it explode in your face
if it an air rifle , the bore has to be clean and rust free or the slugs will jam in the barrel
What you should be doing is pulling it completely down and cleaning , oiling and replacing any unserviceable parts
if you do not know how to do that then a gunsmith is the answer

Is the gun I found in my attic any good the serial number is 197082 and its caliber is 22

Is it any good? Cock it with no pellet in it and fire it with a bit of paper across the muzzle, if it makes the paper jump it's ok.

The bolt release is not functioning on remmington 887

Make sure that you gun is well lubed. Some times after cleaning we can forget to properly lubricate the bolt and associated parts. Also a light lube might tend to freeze in cold weather making it harder to operate correctly. Use a heavier lube in cold weather as lighter lubes will freeze and make firing the rifle impossible.

I am troubleshooting a ward's western field model 87 22 rifle and the bolt wont slide open. I am looking for a manual or exploded view of internals

Try break free or another penetrating oil and let sit for 24 hours. Then you can clean the parts and lubricate properly. Moisture on the bolt that was poorly lubricated will rust in place. You'll need to clean really well before operating the bolt normally.

Firing pin not working

Take the bolt out of the rifle and take the firing pin out of the bolt. Thoroughly clean the firing pin and surrounding spring with a harsh solvent (Gunblast works well--be sure to lubricate the spring and pin after cleaning).

The air rifle i have is a Gamo Hunter Sport .177 It's accuracy is absolutely terrible. I realized that i had put lubrication oil in the barrel and was wondering if that might be the reason, and wanted to...

The first thing to do is clean the barrel, yes, oil in the barrel will cause accuracy to suffer. Next is get as good a pellet as you can and the flat tipped waisted, kind are the best for accuracy. See picture below --->>>> 216ef8c.jpg Next is to lube the pump or mechanism to get as consistent a pump as you can.

I have mixer taps on my bath, cold water tap works

Remove the tap outer cover. Take out the barrel & inside there is the washer on the end of a screw which slides in and out when the tap is turned. This could have been turned too far out and will not go back in. Clean both the screw thread and inside the barrel, lubricate with petroleum jelly or similar and reassemble & test before replacing the barrel. Again lubricate all threads.
Alternatively buy a new barrel

How do I take clean my Carabiners?

Typically, you'll only need to clean your carabiners by blowing any dirt or dust away from the hinge area. If any additional cleaning is necessary, then be sure to wash your carabiner in warm soapy water, and rinse it thoroughly. Once it is rinsed and dry, be sure to lubricate the gate area with a dry graphite, WD40 or other kind of lubricant. Using a dry lubricant will help to keep your carabiner clean longer, as dirty will not be readily picked up. Once the gate has been lubricated, be sure to wipe off any excess lubricant.
