You have a fuel problem. Fuel filter clogged? Carbuerator may need cleaning. Is there a hidden fuel shutoff valve? I have left mine closed... it is embarassing but it happens. I assume you put the choke on initially...

If its new, SOME generators will not start unless at least 3/4 full of gas. Spark plugs secured all the way in? Gas switch on? Pull the choke? NO MORE starting fluid, Bad Louie, BAD! some of the suggestions i posted above may help :) but, no more starting fluid.

Ef2600 yamaha generator will run fine for a day Go to start it the next day it won't start

If the fuel tank is below the carb, check for a check valve in the fuel line not seating. You can verify by shooting a bit of starting fluid in the breather. If it starts and then hesitates a bit and then runs, it means that the engine speed was adequate to suck fuel back up into the line to the carb.

Generator wont start up unless i spray starter fluid into it

This sounds like a dirty carbureator. Just bad enough that it won't start cold.

Generator is brand new. Was run once. Started on first pull. Hasn't been run for two years. Can't get started. Tried spraying a little starting fluid on air filter, nothing. Help?

The odds are the fuel went bad or water has gotten into the tank during the two years of inactivity. Drain the fuel tank and fill with fresh fuel. Also, you may want to change the spark plug (just in case since it's inexpensive) and the oil. Once these are accomplished it should fire right up. Hope this helps!

Our onan generator ran out of gas. we refueled but the generator will not start. i gave it a shoot of starting fluid, the generator fired and run for a second, then died. could it be a cogged fuel filter?...

No, not the filter, you will need to try to prime the carb better then with starting fluid, pour some gasoline down the carb, you may have to do this a few times, but everything will fire back up again once you get the air out of the system

Trys to fire now and then . It has a weak spark.

start with a daignostic test, simplely remove the airfilter, tiurn the switch on,spray a one second spray of starting fluid into the carb, pull the engine, if it fires then you have identified the problem, bad gas and dirty carb. If it does not fire on starting fluid then you have either a compression problem like a stuck valve or an ignition problem, calling for a new ignition module. Good luck, white back if I can help more?Jim

I cannot start my power washer - what could the problem be?

It could be no fire or no fuel it just might be a sparkplug take the spark plug out and touch it against the head or block it had to touch metal pull the rope it should fire if it doesnt fire change plug and try again if it fires then put plug back into the head if it still doesnt start spray some starting fluid in the carburator and try it again that will bypass the carburator that will tell you the problem if its fire or gas

I have a coleman powermate 5700 generator with a 10HP Yamaha MZ300 engine. It set most of the winter and it will not crank. I have verified that fuel is getting to the bowl. I have cleaned the...

Bascially you need to completely remove the old, stale fuel to start with. (you can use the old fuel it in your lawnmower mixed 50:50 with fresh fuel to use it up).

Then once you've drained the fuel tank, you'll have to clean out the carb with a Fuel Injector and Carb cleaner. Really spray the carb till it's soaked, since you've got a schellaced fuel system.

Make sure you remove the air cleaner so you can get the spray into the carb. Also, with the spark plug removed, and the power switch turned "off", so the generator won't try to start during this process. You can also slowly crank the engine with the pull starter, to help work the cleaner through the system.

Then let the unit set for about 10-15 minutes, so the cleaner can evaporate, etc. and then you can reinstall the spark plug.

Now add about 1/2 gallon of fresh fuel and you can try starting the generator. You might have to use some starting fluid to get it started, by carefully spraying it into the carb in very small bursts to keep the motor running

Once it's running smooth, you should always use fresh gas and make sure to add a quality fuel stabilizer, such as Sta-bil, to the gas you use in the generator, as it will keep the fuel system protected for up to 2 years.

I also always turn off the fuel shut-off on my generator to use up the gas in the line before storing it. Also, you should get the generator out at least every 3 months and run it for 15-20 minutes to keep everything working and lubricated, so it will work when you need it.

Just be sure to always add more Sta-bil to your fuel and turn off the fuel shut off and let it run out, before storing.

I've done this with my generators and they're now over 14 years old and always start on the first pull and run like tops!

If you can't get the unit running smoothly, you may have to take it to a small engine service shop for them to do a "tune-up" for you.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
