Sounds like the timer clock motor is going out on the timer unit, they will get erratic and not work on certain settings and then get progressively worse over time, just replace the whole timer unit versus just the motor if just the motor is available, because the timer motor gets its power from the timer contacts and with only a new motor, you still have old contacts in the timer

Maytag Performa Electric dryer timer is bad

Look up an appliance parts store in your area. If there is no appliance store, try www.searspartsdirect.com.

If it does not turn off during timed dry then it for sure has gone bad. If it takes a while on timed dry then it is most likely that your thermal fuse/ valve coils are going bad.

Your timer motor is bad. It is very similar to a clock motor and it drives the timer on your dryer.

My Performa dryer stopped working.

Unplug the dryer.
Replace the thermal fuse and high limit switch located at the heater element.
The parts come as a set.
Raise the top lid of the dryer. The parts are at the back left side.

Maytag Performa Electric Dryer Won't Start

check the blower wheel, sounds to me like it is loose on the blower motor, common on these dryers. One sure sign would be a warped filter and a rusted top. The blower aint putting out enough and the dryer is over heating .

It could very well be a thermostat problem, however, it could also be the drive motor itself starting to burn out. Some dryers are equipped with a "Thermal Limiter" that will cut the power to heat. It doesn't seem to be the case for you. I would defiantely look into another thermostat but if it comes down to the motor, depending on the price, You may want to buy a new dryer.

Jeff, almost sounds like a timer issue, but I was fooled on this once. Under the consol is a inline resistor from the main plug. If this resistor is bad, dryer keeps running in timed dry. Part number for the resistor is 3401076. Look it up on the web so you know what it looks like. Just splices in.. Catriver..post back.
