Question about HP iPAQ hx2410 Pocket PC

1 Answer

How do i change the baud rate on the com port?

I'm connecting my ipaq to an external circuit bd. with a DB-9 connector.
It looks like the ipaq is defaulted for 9600 baud, or it could be the software program I'm using is setting it to this baud rate.

My old circut bd. talks to the ipaq fine.
My new circuit bd., which requires 115k baud, is not.

Is there a way to change the baud rate of the ipaq's COM port?

Lesson 1:
not all Uart chips are the same.
many and vast chips can not do 115k buad.
why not read the spec on this old long ago non supported device.
or ask on real HP forum. this.>?>?>
RS232 was my bag for many years, could make any work.
Im sure this is in the manual , if I had a PC the book would be in my possession, at all times, why let luck rule here.
the luck of find books on old products.>??
168 page manual, i see, and no stinking index. wow.
gota love that. no?
rs232 . history, some apps set it others dont, for the who history of that. so if the APP dont that leave what, the OS, does it.
end history.
the manual stinks in this regard,

il now read your manual to you (google found it in 1sec)
IDENTIfying the Communications Port You can identify the virtual COM ports used to create a
serial port connection. You may need to identify these COM
ports for activities such as printing.
Use the inbound COM port when other devices initiate a serial
connection. Use the outbound COM port when you initiate a
serial connection to another device.
To identify the communications port:
1. From the Today screen, tap iPAQ Wireless > Bluetooth >
Settings > Services tab.
2. Under Services, tap Serial Port and tap the Advanced...
3. Note the names of your inbound and outbound COM ports.
4. Tap OK
(and no other hits in this manual this topic)

if you run and APP and the exit it and see the port baud wrong
you learned your APP is no good.
the spec page in this manual skips RS232 chip totally.
my guess is HP thinks its not needed.

one other hard thing to learn?
is RS232 is Not TTL 232,
RS232 real uses +12 and -12vdc levels, it bet your DEVICE unstated uses TTL232.. 5v TTL signalling.
RS-232 is for modems, and has lots more wires that just 3.
so if its 3 wire, (aka, 2wire Rx /Tx) its not ever called RS232
its and Ad hoc , 232. per the wiki on that...

why not use a real PC to do this
why not then use the USB-232 adaptor dongles sold for $3
use that to communicate, I can show you how to do all that.
using any PC running windows, and 1 extra USB port.

THE OS IS NEXT... (the book skips all these details)
and the APP is last, the APP must support it and the OS
must let the APP, set it, (some dont, even when hardware CAN)
i could not even find a docucment on what are all the chips inside
this relic pocket, pc. nada, or id have shown the data sheet too.

SOURCE: com port

IR port --> in AS just go to "file\connection settings" then tick in the checkbox "enable connection serial cable or IR to this COM port" and choose from the drop down menu "IR port" BT port --> go to the BT manager on your PC, then "advanced config" and click onn thee nail "local services" - double click on the "BT Serial Port" and you will be prompted to the "properties" window that gives you a drop-down menu where you can choose the # of the COM port. You can also edit numbers in the System REgistry, but this requires proper care. I think the foregoing is sufficient for you

SOURCE: access to com port settings

You need to reformat and reinstall TOMTOM - You ONLY get the option after initial installation of the software - I don't know if it is possible to delete an individual file to achieve what you are asking - might be worth a note to TOMTOM technical help.

What is a serial port and where is it on the p67 mb

a serial port is a 9 pin (DB-9) connector for serial communication (RS232) used by modems, mouse, etc... In older machines you had a DB-25 (25 pin connector) as well usually situated in the back of the computer near the printer port (DB-25 connector) but femail (25 holes insdead of 25 pins)

Hope this helps!

Need a configuration wiring rs232 9 pins to two wire output

To communicate two devices with RS-232 ports, at hardware side you'll need 3 wires, Tx, Rx and GND, with DB 9 connectors at both sides ( A & B ) you have to connect 2A to 3B, 3A to 2B, 5A to 5B, if side A is DB-9 and B side is DB-25 the connections are 2A to 2A, 3A to 3B, 5A to 7B, at software level you'll have to setup ports as hardware handshake none, of course, working at the same parameters (speed, data bits, parity).

Meaning of Db and the use of Db9-male Cabl

The D is the shape of the connector when looked at it on it's side. The second letter (A,B,C,D,E) defines the amount of pins in the D connector. "DB9" is actually called DE by the standard and the E=9 pins. A=15, B=25, C=37, D=50, E=9. This standard was set in place by ITT Corp (Not the school) in 1952, and DE-9 connectors were used for tons of applications. (Machinery, Cars, etc). If you are only referring to the computer uses, the connector is widely known as RS-232 or a "Serial" port. These ports in computers were/are used for devices like early printers, scanners, networking hardware, or even as a method of connecting to the Internet at one point.

Want to connect to my computer

What connector/interface does your PC has
9-pin or 25-pin connector

If it has 9-pin connector: use the following:
DB-9 RS-232 Serial Connection
DB-25 RS-232 Serial Connection

If it has 25-pin connector: use the following:
DB-25 Serial Connection
DB-25 RS-232 Serial Connection

If you are configuring the computer to use an RS-422A serial port, you need a special cable. Contact the computer or printer network manufacturer to see if an RS-422A cable is available. If no cable is available, contact your computer manufacturer for your computer pin assignments and have a cable constructed.

The default configuration for the serial port on the printer is for RS-232C serial communication. To set the printer to use RS-422A serial communication, change the control panel Serial Menu’s SERIAL setting to SERIAL=RS-422.

I cann't connect to my switch

The primary connection method for those switches would be serial connection. In the box there should have been a DB9 serial to RJ45 cable. Hyperterminal default settings would allow you to connect.

How to configure the Zebra S500 using a USB to Parallel adapter?

The Zebra Stripe S500 has a RS-232 SERIAL interface using a DB-25 connector . You'll need a USB to SERIAL converter, not parallel. Be sure that the baud rate and data/stop bits are set the same on the printer and interface converter. Generally speaking, use the fastest setting possible (19200 baud) unless you encounter problems.

How to connect my Sharp LC-26DA5U to my computer as a monitor

There are two possible problems: 1. You are connecting a 15-pin (on the laptop) to the 9-pin (on the TV) connection. This isn't the video-in connection for the TV. The TV has a DB-15 connection near its DVI input connector. You should be using a 15-pin to 15-pin cable. The DB-9 connector on the TV is a serial port for servicing the TV. 2. You aren't enabling the external video port for the laptop. Try hitting Fn+F5 on the laptop to cycle between the three display modes: laptop only, laptop + TV, TV only. Make sure to wait a few seconds after hitting Fn+F5 to let the displays sync up.
