Governor shaft positioning on 6.5 Tecumseh lawn mower engine

The engine is in the family of VTP195UIGISA with model mumber 143.986504. I need to know the position of the governor shaft and the proper connection of both spring and solid attachments to the shaft from carburator. I have a Tecumseh disk of Service and Repair manuals but it does not include this particular engine. Thank you for any help you are able to give me.

SOURCE: i need to know how to adjust the carbureator on an

If it has a float type carb, open it 1.5 turns. If it has a diaphram open it one turn. If it has a Walbro carb, there is no adjustment. Once you get the engine started you may adjust the carb to fine tune. Open until it begins to lose RPM's then close until it starts to lose RPM's. Return to a point between the two. Good luck...Lee

SOURCE: Lawn mower sounds like it is running fast and vibrating.

Sounds like a bent shaft, or bent blade.
Also sounds like the part that holds the blade to the shaft is sheared, and allowing the motor to run faster than it would if it is turning the blade properly.
Hope this helped,

Model 31G777 Need to know what the timing position is for this engine please ,As stated earlier I have it at 3 o clock it wont start . ideas please

Don't waht your trying to with the 3 o'clock position but crank and cam timing marks align with each other.

Instructions from service manual:

Install Crankshaft and Camshaft

1. Lubricate the cylinder bearing/oil seal with engine oil.

2. Install intake and exhaust valve tappets.

3. Support both ends of the crankshaft, and carefully install into the cylinder.
NOTE: The counterbalance system, if equipped, must be assembled to the crankshaft before installing into the cylinder.

4. Assemble connecting rod assembly to crankshaft.

5. Install the timing gear to the crankshaft with timing mark out. The flange of the gear must face the counterweight link, if equipped.

6. Install camshaft, making sure tappets clear cam lobes. Timing marks (A, Figures 6, 7, 8) must align.

7. On horizontal crankshaft engines, make sure the paddle on the governor shaft (B, Figure 6) is rotated in line with the governor cup inside the crankcase cover.

8. On vertical crankshaft engines, assemble governor gear/oil slinger (B, Figures 7 and 8) to camshaft. Make sure the paddle on
the governor shaft is contacting the governor cup (C).

13 hp tecumseh riding mower engine surges when mower is not engaged. It runs well when mower is engaged

"Govenor hunting" caused by a lean condition ,carb is starving for fuel ! Dirt in carb or water,or out of adjustment ,or leaking throttle shaft ....usually it is a plugged low idle passage, that causes this condition, and is almost impossible to remedy, but a good cleaning might help .....does it only governor hunt at low idle ? If so thats the issue !

Speed of the lawn mower governor is missadjusted

The engine revs are turned down to make the machine noise compliant, increasing the revs will greatly increase the noise, the engine revs shouold not realy be increased, however a dealer with a suitable engine taco may do it for you, it is very important not too over speed the engine or it will self destruct,

I have a 10 hs tecumseh motor on a riding mower i need an explode view of carb and linkage when start-up engine it goes wide open

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. I understand you have a 10 HP Tecumseh engine. There are service manuals available on line for your engine but without your engine model number it is difficult to pass you the correct one: Here is the link for the service manuals:

Somewhere in the list is your manual.
This is my best guess without your engine model number:

^-Make sure you read about Adjustments in section 1 also.

Running wide open causes:
1. Broken throttle control plate spring
2. Governor spring problem
3. Internal Governor flyweight has departed the governor gear.
4. Throttle plate (butterfly) attached to the throttle shaft in the carb throat has come off the throttle shaft.
5. Broken / missing linkage
6. Someone loosened the governor shaft bolt at the base of the governor arm and allowed the governor to get out of adjstment.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

I mixed up one spring and the mower idles low on craftsman eager-1 5.0 22 inch cut

I think that model may use the Tecumseh engine and carburetor application. Here is a diagram of what your machine (carb/choke and governor) should look like.

I have a lawnmower with a tecumseh 173 cc engine that has experienced a sudden loss of power what could be causing this and how do i fix it

Ok, on the left side of the engine at the rear part of the block is a speed governor on Tecumseh vertical shaft engines. there is a spring that connects the governor to the throttle, if that spring is somehow broken or disconnected it can cause the problem you are experiencing. Check for that spring...if necessary, you can order a replacement through your user manual...cheers!
