Question about M-Audio US85100 Keyboard

Prokeys 88 Premium Stage Piano key broken

One of the white keys on my keyboard has broken. The unit was shoved into a van and it must have been in the wrong position for the entire duration of the trip. To explain further, the carrying case is too big for the unit and there was no padding inside the case whatsoever. The keyboard is a gift and I did not look inside before taking it home. Henceforth, the screw-up. I opened her up to take a look inside, just a peek, and four items fell out: 1) a small white piece of curved plastic (looks intact), 2) a small spring, and 3) two (possibly three) little washers (the 3rd was on the floor and I don't know if it belongs to the unit but it looks like the same color even if it is a bit larger and a layer of paint worn off). any advice would be appreciated. If someone can provide a link that leads to a webpage that is a tutorial on opening up the unit even more and replacing the parts that fell out (if these parts belong to the key that is), or a recommendation to a repair place (person) within the New York City (preferably Manhattan) area that is low cost. Thanks.

I just got this keyboard and want to hear the program # 110 Upright Bass 1 and its Ride Cymbal; I hear the bass, but not the cymbal. The sound is listed in Appendix B on B-14 in the manual. Thanks!

Verify the sound in headphones directly from the unit. The cymbal MAY be panned to one side or the other and will require higher frequency response than some of the piano notes.

I just got a 18 month old privia px130 and when I play the G keys (middle and -1) and the -1C there is a hissing sound. If it only happens in the electric piano setting. If I set it on duet, it happens...

First thing is to verify if the sound is there using headphones. This is important test as it isolates problems in power amps and other connected equipment that may be sensitive to the particular pitch of those keys. If it is in the headphones, then likely you will have to take it to a repair shop as the problem would be very deep in the unit's sound generator hardware.

After transport the keyboard, half of the keyboard below c4 not work.

Probably a cable has come loose inside the unit. The keys are scanned by the internal processor as a matrix of two contacts per key. Often the keyboard is divided into two sections.
You will need to have it repaired or if you are electronically adept, open the case and look for obvious problem.

It is NOT likely the keyboard is "killing the speakers"... OR the headphones for that matter.

I suspect the problem is bad switch contacts in the headphone jack that cut off the speaker line outputs when headphones are plugged into the pro keys. These jacks are, to put it bluntly, JUNK... they are EASILY damaged by pulling the cable plugged into them sideways. You will need to service the unit.

Hi there, I have a Nord Stage EX 76 and played a gig on friday night outdoors. I have set the keyboard up and now one or two of the notes occasionally sound much louder than they should. The problem...

What has happened is that one of the contacts on those notes is not working properly. Each key has two contacts. One makes before the other as the key is pressed. The processor MEASURES the time between those as you hit the key to read the VELOCITY you have hit the key with. This velocity is often used for loudness on many voices such as the piano. These contacts are USUALLY conductive rubber pills suspended in silicone rubber "domes". One can disassemble the key area and clean BOTH the black rubber pills and the circuit traces they are pressed against using Q Tips and ONLY 99% isoprophyl alcohol to restore proper operation
One needs to be very careful when disassembling unit as there are many tender ribbon cables and connectors. Best to have clear work area and two people to "control" the halves of the shell while opening..

Nord keys not making sound

This will have the weighted keys.

The contacts for the dead keys are dirty and have to be cleaned. This type keyboard is NOT DIY unless you are adept at electronics. The actual contacts are accessable after a lot of dis-assembly.
They are conductive rubber that is pressed against circuit traces on circuit board.

Use ONLY 99% isoprophyl alcohol and QTips to clean both the contact and the circuit traces they press against. Clean ALL the contacts when you have the unit open as others are sure to become inoperative as well.

Prokeys 88 flashes 888 and none of the keys work.

Reset the 88 by switching off --> hold the - and + buttons while turning on. Your device will reset and usually everything should be solved.
