Question about Yamaha DV-C6480 Multi-disc DVD Player

How to use the Yamaha AV Receiver Remote for the DV-C6480 MD-DVD

I lost the remote for the Yamaha DV-C6480 MD-DVD player that came with the Yamaha HTR-5550 AV Receiver.

I tried to set the user code for the HTR-5550 Remote as shown on pg 46,47 of the HTR-5550 manual. But it does not provide the capability to control the DV-C6480, or any other component, Yamaha or otherwise.

Does anyone have experience solving this problem?

Thanks for your help

Thanks for the suggestion on the universal remote. I was pretty much getting to that point with the frustration I've had with the DV-C6480 remote.
It's interesting that of the two components of the YHT-700 Home Theatre system I bought several years ago, that the DVD changer would be the better component as far as quality and features than the HTR-5550 AV Receiver, except for the remotes.
The HTR-5550 AV Receiver remote (P/N V829520) is a much better remote than the DV-C6480 remote (P/N V8010600).
I've purchased a Logitech Harmony 700 Universal Remote and will let you know of my experience with programming it.

    Thanks again for your help.

If I understand you issue correctly you have tried to enter a code for the HTR5550 that would allow you to control your DVC6480. Per your user manual I would choose one of the codes that they give you for the MD recorder. Per the back of the manual these codes would either 0024, 0394, 0404. You then state that it doesn't provide the capability to control the DV-C6480. I take this to mean that none of the codes you try actually works with the DV-C6480. You've come up against one of the odder items in the world of programmable remotes. When the manufacturer produces their programmable remotes they have to choose where to draw the line when it comes to the equipment they will support. Unfortunately the manufactures time difference between the amp and high end DVD player of yours was so great that they did not build in support for the DV-C6480. Many of the programmable remotes out there will allow you to do a "code scan" to see if the remote will generate a code that will run any units that are not listed in their manuals. Yamaha chose not to build in that feature in their remote.
The only thing that you can do at this point is look at one of the higher end universal remotes, such as the Logitech Harmony remotes, that are programmable for a broader base of units.

If this is not the information you were trying to find please let me know. Thank you.

My DVD tray on my Yamaha DV C6480 (it holds 5 DVDs) got stuck in the half open half closed position. It may have come off the track. I opened the case and reinstalled the DVD Tray. Now the tray...

This happens to us all the time. Here is the note I keep on how to fix it quickly:
When tray gets messed up, the drive wheel (with pegs that interlock with pegs on the tray) needs to be such that the tray slides in and out freely. Push tray all the way in. Turn on.

Hope that gives a hint.

Connect AV receiver to a Dish receiver model VIP722 DVR

Your DVD player should connect to your TV, not the DISH DVR. Is the Yamaha some sort of receiver or something similar? If so, it should plug into the TV as well. The DVR just provides a signal to your TV, just like the other two components. On the back of your TV there should be other connections to plug into like HDMI1, HDMI2, AUX1, etc. You select which input you want to view using your TV remote. For example, if you were watching a DVD, you turn on the DVD player. Say it was plugged into AV1 or something similar on the back of the TV. With your TV remote, select which input you are using...that way your TV receives the signal from your DVD player and nothing else.

Error H02

I had the same problem and found that the motor that spins the cd so it can be read would start and stop. I opened the case removed the assembly with the motor and placed a drop of 3in1 lightweight oil on the shaft of the motor ran it a few times and now it works perfectly fine. Good luck hope this helps you as well.

No Picture

i think this means it is dying. mine started to skip and then promptly stopped reading the disks too. i was told it may be the optical lense and it may be better to buy a new one than have it fixed. my problem now is that i can't find a replacement that is not upconvert (i see no difference in the component cables vs. hdmi). i am sad to lose this player. love it.
