Question about Televison & Video
I have a sony tv # kp-61v80
the other night it just would not turn on
the red light on front of tv blinked 1 time and i smell something burning in the back of tv i looked and the smell and a little smoke came from a part that had these numbers on them d2578 it is a gray square small piece with 3 progs on it it has more numers on the bottom of it 9e2 can i fix this my self ?
The part is a horizontal output transistor 2SD2578. There are probably other parts shorted such as a flyback transformer and or power supply components. I would not try to fix this one if I were you. Sony TV`s rarely blow just one part. Usually you have a handful of bad parts. Sony`s can be difficult even for experienced technicians.

D2578 is a transistor that often runs hot and burns out. Replace it with 2SD2539 transistor that runs much cooler. That should solve your problem.
However, if it has burnt out due to another component causing a voltage problem, it may only work temporarily or not at all.
I'd guess that the odds are 90-10 in your favor and it should not be expensive - so it is definitely worth a try.
You can get the 2SD2539 transistor from a TV parts dealer or from Sony. It does not have to be made by Sony. Parts dealers will be much less expensive than from Sony. Google "TV-Parts" near (your zip) code or look in the yellow pages under that heading.
