I have a dyson dc14 that is not working. It has suction in the canister, but not in the hose. I do not have an owners manual, as the machine was given to me from someone that was moving and was going to throw it away. I knew that the machine was only a couple years old at the most, and could be fixed. I am wondering if it is missing a part ( a connector on the bottom of the machine) between the bottom of the hose and what I would call the beater bar.. this bar is not moving either. i have checked the suction on the canister and it works very well. I would appreciate any help, so that i could use this machine.,

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

First of all you need to ensure that the brush control dial on the cleaner head is in the correct position. With the machine stood upright, this dial should be in the centre position (you should be ablwe to move it backwards to the off position). If it is, you then need to release the head into the vacuuming position at which point the dial should move forwards to the on position, lie the machine on its side and switch it on. The brush bar should then start to move. If not, its possible that the cluth may have a fault and you may need a repair or replacement clutch assembly.

If the brush bar starts turning, try the machine and if the suction is still poor, you will need to follow the blockage procedure. This can be found in the user guide, however as you no longer have a copy, you can download one for free via our website at Just visit our support section and you will find a complete self help guide and contact information for Dyson direct if you feel you need it.

I hope that this information is useful to you.

Kind regards

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty with your DC14 Animal. It sounds as if there may be a blockage in the hose, wand or U-bend of your machine. To check for this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

Please note, the filter underneath the clear bin does not need maintainance - so if you've washed this, you may want to email us at for further assistance as the filter may have been damaged.

Have Dyson DC14. Lots of suckion through hose but

Had the same problem on brand new cleaner DC14 and it was the belt that drives teh front roller not being connetted to the small silver motor spindle. I just opened the front roller cover (3 easy unlocking screws on base) and saw black rubber belt was not connetted and was loose. I just flipped the belt over the silver motor spindle and away we go (after cover was put back on). It now works as it should!

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at

Problems with Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Vacuum very little suction coming from the hose. cleaned filter and suction has not improved. Please help. Thanks

Two possible solutions come to mind. First off, there is a clog in your hose. If you have another vacuum, try using the hose on that one to **** it out.
If that doesn't work, you may need to have the clutch replaced. Check your warranty. The clog wont be covered, but the clutch will be,

Dyson DC 14 lost suction to beater bar/ suction to hose/stick

My Dyson DC14 had no suction...see if this works...turn the Dyson upside down...there is a length of hose that connects the bottom of the vacuum to the top, careful remove one end of the hose and check for debris...mine was clogged. Removed the clog and works. Thanks for the above info on checking the hose for cracks.
