Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a sub zero 590 fridge. 3 months ago I had a new evaporator and recharged. Recently the fridge is not cooling as well. Is this a defrost problem or something else. Any ideas?

The guys that did the freon say it's illegal to top up. I guess I have to get them to come. Any other thoughts? Let me know and I will accept solution, thanks. By the way, the thermostat was changed as well before.

    Very helpful, thank you.

It turned out to be - clogged condensor, pressure at 45 instead of 15lbs. tech blew it out with some sort of air gun. works fine now. For your arsenal of solutions.

Hi i would say your problem is going to be with the freon level, as you have just had new parts and had it refilled then the chances are the freon has had time to settle and work its way around the cooling system witch then causes the level to appear low, you should get it topped back up and make sure you use some one who can check it is not leaking freon.

It could just be it needs topping up or it may be that the unit was not sealed correctly so make sure you get it tested to ensure its not leaking.

Does it even cool if you turn it on to its coldest setting, if doing this makes little or no difference then this would point towards freon level being low

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

hi, you may find the evap they fitted is faulty as you have had this changed and also the thermostat then their should be no reason why it should not work.

if you can hear the fridge start up when switched on at the mains then this suggests the other parts are all working so i would call them back out and ask them to check the evap is working as it should, and if they refuse to top it up then the next option would be to have it drained and refilled, but if your going to have to pay the people who did it in the first place again then your best option would be to call someone else out and tell them the work you have had done and ask them to check it has been done properly, if it can then be proved their work was not up to scratch then you have the chance of claiming your money back off them for work they done.

Why is my sub zero fridge model 590 warming up?

Hi fridges will warm up on the outside as they remove heat from the inside. excessive heat with not extreme cooling inside the fridge indicates a possible degridation of coolant fluid or a leak. as the motor tries to cool the fridge the thermostat inside stays on as the tempreture inside has not been reached. if you hear the motor/ pump continually running this will indicate a cooling problem.

What is causing my sub zero moled 590 , made in feb 93 to gradually warm up?

yeah vacuuming behind the fridge is a good start this will help the fridge preform better as when dust builds up on the condenser it will cause the discharge to be hotter than it should be making the cooling in the case not as efficient. i would start by removing the pannel in the fridge and seeing if any ice is on the evaporator

Ignore the fan operation... That is perfect.

You are likely experiencing a DEFROST failure
(most commonly a defrost timer failure)...
part number 3081180 item 69 on your exploded
top view (top right side as viewed from the front).

There are typically only three (3) elements to a DEFROST
circuit:
- Defrost Timer (as noted above)

- Heater element to WARM the EVAPORATOR

- DEFROST thermostat... inhibit excess heat
(closed circuit at freezing - Opens at room temperature)

Check your defrost pan...
there should be water there DAILY...

IF not: you are assured that your DEFROST fails.

Per YOUR DESCRIPTION...
You need to look for a SUDDEN REASON (huge air leak)
why FROST would form so quickly...
USUALLY a big pizza box... BUT ANYTHING blocking a
TIGHT DOOR SEAL will cause massive frosting.

It is taking moisture from the WARM ROOM AIR and blocking your evaporator...

Yes ... all INTERIOR panels must be in place for the refrigerator to function properly.
