Uneven printing on canon pixma ip1800 printer

I have a canon pixma ip1800 printer, when i print a text page, some of the lines are split horizontaly, having half the line moved a bit from the other half, making it hard to read. when i printed a full picture page (black/white) i saw that every other inch of printed strip of (horizontal) printed line across the page is moved - one to the right one to the left and so on. although it is moved only a bit, but of-course it is distorted. aligning cartridges through the program did not help. what's weird, when i printed a test page, it seemed all fine. i will be greatful for your assistance

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA iP1800 InkJet Photo Printer for windows 98

I think I will save you some time telling you that there is no driver for Pixma IP1800 running on Windows 98/ME.

The printer had been built to work on windows XP/Vista, and drivers for 98 were never made.

Here or here you find two of the many threads on Win 98 driver for Pixma IP1800, all of them end in nothing. I can speak portuguese, the links wrongly provided are drivers for XP, and won't work on 98, and there is also no brasilian website distributing drivers for this printer on win 98, that was just a legend.

This printer won't work on Windows 98.

SOURCE: White lines across text on Canon MX700

It sounds very much like a failed printhead or printhead driver; the circuit that controls which jet is addressed or left blank.

A faint line shows up down the middle of the page, when printing a photo

from cnet review of the product

  • Unfortunately, as with the Z1420, fast print speeds come at the cost of print quality with the Z1300. Black text prints, though nicely dark, were beset by obvious jaggedness. The color graphics print had a slightly faded look to it and color blocks showed graininess and faint horizontal striations. Barcode-style patterns were muddled, too. For our tests, we printed color 4x6 photos with the standard black and tricolor cartridges, as Lexmark did not include photo ink tanks with the test unit. The colors were dull, details were hazy, and again, the entire print was marred by graininess and faint horizontal lines. That said, nobody buys a $25 printer to print photos for framing or to create displays for a classroom science project. A $25 printer is a convenience item for occasional reference prints, and as such, the Z1300 does its job.

Canon MP510 prints uneven lines.

I assume that you've cleaned the nozzles and alignment utility.  Try wiping the carriage bar with a lint free cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol. Also, the paper feed rollers may have collected some "goo" and should be cleaned with the rubbing alcohol. This should clear the problem.
