I have this printer, what you have to do is when you power it up, wait and listen until the printer grabs the paper to do the test print, then quickly press the CANCEL button once, the paper will pass through the printer but not print, then just put the paper back in the feed tray and start your day with a smile. The cancel button is on the left hand side underneath the power button. The printer prints a test page when you change ink cartridge as well by the way.

Hi there
You may not do this but what I do is never turn it off, some printers made this way just to waste the inks up fast.

As someone else has pointed out, HP is one of those printer manufacturers that has incredibly expensive brand name ink/toner that it hopes you will buy because of its efforts to convince you that less expensive 3rd party printer supplies are inherently inferior. Ditto for HP printer paper.

The thing you must remember is that your manufacturer's warranty is still good if you feed your HP printer non-HP brand paper and ink/toner. (IANAL) That being said, I do tend to avoid refilling ink/toner cartridges myself and won't buy refilled ones except from reputable sources. The problem is that the cartridges are now "smart" and name-brand printers can be made to not work with 3rd party replacements by small changes in the firmware -- which, of course, are implemented in the guide of product improvement. :-(

I also have the problem of the constant printing of a test page. It doesn't seem to matter if you buy a brand new cartridge or refill them.... it has something to do with the USB connection to your computer. There is a specific order to follow for connecting everything and turning on/off. I have yet to figure out the order, but I have fluked a few times because it just stops doing it. I know this is no help but it's not just a matter of how the ink is replaced. But while I'm here.... does anyone out there know how to utilize the TOOLS for "cleaning/aligning/testing" the printer if HP Director is not active. I was "forced" into using Vista and my HP 1350 is not compatible for using all of the features. I can still use the PSC via USB connection, but don't have access to the "service this device" tab anymore. I used to be able to service it (deliberately) and it would print a vibrantly colored butterfly. Hope someone has a clue for me. Thank you, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Click on the 'Automatically check to see if your driver needs updating (MS Windows Only).' box in order to check for latest updates to your driver.

Unfortunately, I looked over the unexpected page output and it didn't list this problem as one of them.

Does it really print a test page every time you switch it on? Or does it only print a test page after installing a new cartridge?

Definitely, the alignment page should be printed everytime a new cartridge is installed due to variations in manufacturing of print cartridges will throw off the alignment everytime a new cartridge is installed.

I'm not sure about the test page, though.

Good luck on this modification of standard operating of hp printers.

Alignment page prints every time printer is turned on. HP1315 on Windows Vista Home Premium.

Take the test page ( also called : alighnment page ) that always prints when you switch on the printer and place it face down in the scanner.

Then press the scan button on the printer itself.
(this is the button at the bottom of all the buttons on the printer/scanner.)

Make sure that the printer scans the test page.
( sometimes you press the butoon and it doesn't scan )
( it makes a scanning noise when scanning succesfully )

Then it will stop printing the test page ( alignment page ) ever again.

HP PSC 1315 Prints test page every time printer is installed

Hi Jay,
This is mike, actually the problem is that that printer has not completed the aligning process, as a result the printer is printing the test page (Alignment page) every time when you turn it ON. So, I would suggest you to let the printer prints the alignment page and check whether the printer prints the page with all colors and it printed fine, once it is done, disconnect the USB cable behind the printer and then place the alignment page on the scanner glass by facing down the printed page downwards and press the scan button. This start the alignment process and the scanning process will be completed once the ON light is stop blinking. This will complete the alignment process.

Once done try to turn off and turn on the printer and check for the result. This should resolve the issue.

However, if the issue persist, then please revert back to me. Be sure that you use the HP genuine ink cartridges, not refilled nor re-manufacture.

Printer prints a test page every time it is turned on.

Hi everyone

After replacing the print cartridges 2 steps need to be done:

1. Wait for the test page to be printed out and

2. Put a page over the scanner glass and press scan button on your

printer.

Turn off the printer and turn it on again to see if the problem was

solved.

Keep printing test sheets

A lot of HP printers print a page to enable the print head alignment and calabration. This normally orcurs when a cartridge has been changed. If the alignment page fails then it will reprint alignment page until it can align.

So, you need to get that page it prints and place it on the glass and press scan, then it will complete alignment and be ready to rock.

I don't know this personally, but you should be able to hit the power button and turn it off right after you load the cartridges. then power back on. That might do the trick.

Printer prints test page each time printer is turned on

There may be something initialised to print a test page everytime it starts, just remove printer, uninstall driver and re start. Re install drivers and connect printer when prompted or when installation has finished. This should revert to default settings.
