Question about Refrigerators

LG Washer Our barely three-year old LG washer is great, except that i noticed rust has been forming around the detergent dispenser. When I asked LG customer service online and by phone about this, they said it's "cosmetic" and could do nothing. Therefore, the unit can simply continue to totally rust away at this rate as it, of course, is getting worse. Our almost 20-year old moderately-priced Kenmore never rusted. Considering the cost of the unit and the rest of the features being good, this is very sad. Any advice?

Unfortunatly this is real world. If you want to preserve this products look and further rusting. Sand the affected area, prime and paint. LG has touch up paint available thru your local part distributor. G Luck

So, we have the wipe the rubber seal after every wash, and now I see we should wipe the dispenser area down after every wash too.

Yeah, really saves time...

This is a crock. Cosmetic maybe but caused by a leaky dispenser.
And LG still won't take responsibility.
You work for LG, Joe?

We had to replace the dispenser on our red front loading washer because a contractor finishing the laundry room damaged it. They are available for $67 if you want to just replace it. I agree that LG's customer service is less than acceptable, I like the products but hate dealing with the company.

Hi!!
Sand down the rust, clean the area around it and apply a couple of coats of Appliance Paint of the same color, the more coats you apply, the better protection against rust you'll have. You can find that paint at any HomeDepot or most Hardware Stores. They have it in spray can and nail polish size to apply with a tiny brush.

LG refrigerator won't dispense water any more

The water line is freezing in the door due to deteriorated insulation. The only fix I have found to work on my fridge was to defrost the inside door with a blow dryer. Then place a weedeater replacement line (the orange 10" or so size you find at Lowes' or Home Depot) up through the dispenser nozzle, If the line only travels about 3-4 inches up the nozzle, then ice is still in the tube. Blow dry it until you are able to get water to dispense. After the tube is ice-free, place the weedeater line up throuth the dispenser nozzle leaving about 1/8" sticking out. The dispenser will still work with the line stuck in it. The dispenser will probably freeze again in about 8 hours, But all you need to do each time this happens is to pull the weedeater line out, dispense the water to unclog the ice, and place the weedeater line back in the nozzle. I have been using this method for about a week now and it works great. My GE Side-by-side is also 4 years old and this seems to be a problem with all of them. There is a part you can order to fix the problem, but I have heard it may not work.

Not getting any water out of the dispenser, but its making ice

The water dispenser on my GE profile fridge stopped working for a couple days. The refrigerator and freezer temperatures have fluctuated over the past several months causing fridge items to periodically freeze and freezer items to periodically thaw. GE tech came today identified a bad circuit board, which he replaced for a cool $300. Ouch. Fridge is only three years old. Oh yeah, the icemaker also has a broken tab which causes it to jam every couple weeks. We have GE Profile appliances throughout our kitchen and they all work great except for the fridge :-( I hope GE engineers read this post. If so, get to work! LOL

Just hooked up our LG washer given to us by my sister in law, it is only a few years old. When we hooked it up and turned on the water it started running into the machine. the power was not on. What could...

Bad water fill valve. (the part the hose screws onto at the back of the machine) The hot one is seperate from the cold fill valve, so you will need to determine which is not working: ie allowing water to enter machine when not on. (cold has several solonoid coils, the hot only has one) To get to the valves, If this is a front control model, remove the screws from the bottom side of the plastic part on the back side of the washer top, then stand in front of the machine and use the palms of your hands to sharply push back on the sides of the washer's top. It will move back about one and a half inches, then you can lift it off. If you have a rear control unit, you have to remove the 4 screws holding the soap dispenser in, unhook the dispenser from the washer top, and use a putty knife to release the spring clips (2) at the seam where the washer top meets the washer's front panel, then you can swing the top up and back.

Snow building up around ice maker opening

Check to make sure the dispenser door is closing all the way and I mean ALL the way.
GE has had issues with the solenoid rusting out on those units and not letting the door close all the way.

Rust on Jenn Air Refrigerator Door at Water Dispenser

You may end up respraying the door, but here goes.-

First mechanically remove as much of the rust as you can with an old screwdriver or similar scraper. Then use coarse emery cloth - 80 -120 grit untill all you're left with is shiny metal with rust pits.
You may need to go out further than you think - about 1" all round.

Then use a paint- on de-rusting fluid from vehicle products supplier. When all rust is black or dissapeared, use a zinc primer on all the bare metal. (this will stop it reacuring)

Then either spray the area with an "appliance white" aerosol or squirt it into the cap, and use a paintbrush.

If you are spraying it, open all house windows and doors, cut a mask from newspaper- then tape it to the fridge. Use blankets , plastic dustsheet or old sheets to protect things, and spray it from 12" in several very light coats.

When done, "polish" with T cut - which should remove the rust stain too.

Seal the area of the original leak with a white or clear silicone - and sort the original leak out.

If you polish the plastic with a silicone spray, water will tend to stay put rather than seep.
