Question about Hitachi 50UX26B/27K 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

50UX26B Powers off after a few minutes.

My 50UX26B just started to power off after a few minutes. It will turn back on by clicking to on button twice, but powers off again by itself.

I took the back panel off and vacuumed and blew it out with compressed air thinking maybe the excess dust build-up was causing over-current somewhere, but that didn't help.

I suppose there is a bad component somewhere, so I'm wondering if someone else has had this problem with this model and found the fix for it.

Any help would be appreciated as I'd like to get this working again -- Been a good TV until now.

I thought the idea here was to avoid using a service company to resolve issues. On that note, I did some more checking on the internet and found the common cause to this problem with this set. I've ordered the part and once I get it installed and tested, I report back here for any who may be having the same (similar) problem.

It's Fixed. The solution was to replace the STR-M6511 Switching Regulator IC. Not hard to do and cost was $5.00 US.

Here's a link to a PDF for the IC

Here's a like to where I bought the IC

Don't have to take apart much. Back panel, 2 screws holding down the main circuit board assembly and the screw holding the IC.

Once that's done, put the set (carefully) on it's face, lift up the circuit board assembly enough to tip it over to get to the IC leads to unsolder. Use some desoldering wick to get it loose. Check the lead bends on the old one, as you may need to rebend the leads on the new one (I did) to match. Put some heat sink paste on the back of the case and using a small needle-nose pliers, place the new IC in the holes. Screw it in tight and solder it in.

Tip the set back up (carefully), screw the circuit board assembly back in (2 screws), check for any loose wires, plug it in and it should work.

Hope this helps someone. And I hope others here will post their fixes as finding someone to fix a TV these days is about a lost cause from my experience, unless you know someone.

I don't think you'll find the solution without professional help. Have it serviced.

Windows sleep mode problems

Sleep mode on a Windows 7 PC saves power without you having to turn your computer off and without losing any work. This option cuts the power to your monitor, powers down the hard drive and pauses all functions until you awaken the computer from hibernation. Whether you have a laptop, desktop or workstation, putting your computer into sleep mode will lower your electric bill and save money! Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop. In the lower right corner of the Start menu, next to the "Shut Down" button, is a button labeled with a small, right-pointing arrow. Mouse over the arrow. The Shut Down menu appears. Point at "Sleep" and click on this option. Your Windows 7 computer goes into sleep mode. Wake your computer from sleep mode by jiggling the mouse. There may be a delay of a few seconds before your hardware powers on. All of your open programs are still open and your work is intact, just as you left it before the computer entered sleep mode. Configure your Windows 7 PC to go into sleep mode automatically when it is not used for a certain amount of time. Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Click "System and Security." Click "Power Options." A menu opens. Click on "Choose when the computer sleeps" and select the number of minutes of inactivity. You can also set a separate time interval to put your monitor into sleep mode. If you set both to 10 minutes, then your PC and monitor will automatically go into sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity

On my Hitachi 50UX26B the only button that is working is the power. Neither the remote or the buttons on the TV will change channels or volume. Today it also has a wide black strip in the middle, about 24...

you likely had a power outage, unplug set for at least ten minutes and put power back to it.

Seen this in a lot of these sets and owned two of them myself.

before you rate this solution if you have a question let me know.

Unplugging set and plugging back allows the microprocessor in the set to reset

TV turns itself off after about 5 minutes (green light remains on). I can turn off the TV and turn it back on immediately, however, the TV turns itself back off after a few minutes. It started turning off...

Check and make sure your fans are working and there is sufficiant cooling to the back of the set. Sounds like it is overheating and going into protection mode.

Powers down by it self then will not power up for up to twenty minutes or so

This is an indication that you have a leaky electrolytic capacitor in the voltage regulator section.
Leaky capacitor will affect the regulation of the supply and need a little warm-up to power up the unit.
Replaced the capacitor in that area and your unit will back to normal again.
Hope it may help you.
Have a nice day!
