Just bought that TV a few weeks back. all of a sudden the remote stopped working. Well, first thing I thought, batteries are dead, so I replaced them.. but still nothing works.. could a remote be somehow locked? Is it possible to buy a universal lcd remote for this model without the remote working? thanks guys

Re: LCD TV Remote quit working
Hi, First thing, turn off the TV and unplug it for about 2-3 minutes. Remove also the batteries on your remote. Re-install the batteries on the remote and plug in your TV. Power on your TV using the remote. No luck? Norcent may not be supported by a universal remote. If you just bought your unit new (maybe Best Buy who carries this brand) you are still covered by its warranty. Below are ways you can reach Norcent. http://www.norcent.net/main/contact.asp 909) 305-2121 email@example.com

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
infrared board may have a fault. its in the front part on the board with the buttons. the infrared receiver may be going or gone it looks like a square led. that picks up the signal light from the remote.
there are several things to try..
first, isolate the source of the problem... get a universal remote (borrow one from a friend if you don't have one--get the instructions, too)...then program it for your tv...if the UR doesn't work, then there is a problem with either the tv or its remote sensor...try the troubleshooting guide for the tv or call the customer service line (ask if there are similar probs going around for that model..you might get some special incentive to quit ****, if so..)
If it DOES work, then it's your remote...best thing to do is make sure that the batts are good (which you did....but make sure you didn't get a fresh set of batteries from the same bad lot - it happens)...then check to make sure that the connections for the batteries are not missing, broken, or bent.. Look for corrosion, loose wires, solder gone...anything you can see which might cause your problem...Nothing visible? send it back..or try to exchange it at the store you bought it from, if it's a currently selling model
Hope that helps you
there is a easier way to check your remote. Open your radio on AM frequencies, you don't need to be tuned just noise is perfect, then bring your remote near the antenna and press some button. You will ear the frequency in your radio. If it works this way but not on the TV make sure to press the TV button before using it (if the remote is universal).
You need to isolate the problem.
1) Unplug the set for a few seconds then plug it in. 2) Operate the TV with the control/buttonson the TV. (Channels etc) If the TV operates correctly then do the following.
3) Try operating with the remote unit. If the problem returns then it's the remote failing.
Sometime remotes can be reset. Try this; Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4. Step 2- Press and release each and every button one at a time on the remote control until every button has been pressed and released at least once! Step 3- If your remote has slide switches, you must move the switch to each position then repeat the button pushing in Step 2. (When you're done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with!) Step 4- Put the batteries back into the remote, being very careful to install them correctly. New batteries should be used if you're not sure about the old ones.
Try it again. If the problem is still there then the remote is bad.
Since this is a newTV you should use your warranty to replace any bad parts.
UNBELIEVABLE!!! mattymcmatt has the solution!!! I have had trouble with my Visio 26" remote ever since I got it several years back. Had to mess with the batteries, BUT Finally it quit entirely several months ago. I have tried everything... batteries, unplug TV, press each button on remote, etc... just bought a new remote, and tried all the above 'fixes' AGAIN nothing has worked. read mattymcmatt's fix of unplugging tv held down the on button on the tv for little over a minute, plugged tv back in and and VIOLA my remote is now WORKING!!! thankyou matty!!!!
take the batteries out of the Sharp remote press and hold the POWER button on the top of the remote for 5 seconds. Put batteries back in. Make sure that function is set to TV. Should work - if not call Sharp. If you are inside the original manufacturer warranty they will replace remote
