Question about Vizio GV47LF Television

1 Answer

We were watching regular programming when we heard a "pop" and the screen went blank. Tried hard reboot, but no power up. Can not turn it off without unplugging. Is it the power board and where can I find a schematic?

I've pulled the poswer board and looked as closely as I could at the capacitors. Nothing looks or smells unusual. Could the fused have blown before a capacitor blows? As far as cold solder joints, were you referring to any in particular?

Hi,

As there is a Pop Noise, more likely it is Power Supply Board. You need to Open the TV. Make sure it would be Unplugged. You need to Take all the Precautions. Locate the Power Supply Board. Remove the Connectors and Pull out the Board. Once you Pull out the Board, with the Help of Magnifying Glass, locate Cold Solder Joint. If Everything is OK, then you would Locate Bulged / Leaked / Swelled Caps. They would have Ammonia kind of Odor. You need to De-Solder them. You could take the same to Radio Shack / Fry's / Order Online. Once you get the New Caps, Solder them and it is all set.You also need to Check Fuses around that.

Getting a Service Manual for this Model could be tough, but i would be able to ask few vendors, in case problem would not be resolved. Usually, you could easy repair the Power Supply Board, if you could catch Few Bad Caps ( which i assume as you heard a Pop Sound ).

Let me know,once done.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

We heard a "pop" noise

The pop noise could be a capacitor poping its top up.This is a common problem to most TV sets today. Usually located at the power supply board.Once this parts give up it usually shorts the circuit and blows a fuse.Replacements of these parts mentioned will often remedy the problem.Flashing power indicators indicate a problem. If you have the chance of counting how many the blinks are I could have told you the problems code are and the source of the problem.

Screen blank

Sounds like a cap or fuse has blown in the set, you will need to take the back cover of and have a look, check on the power board for any blown caps, you will notice them straight away if one has poped, also check any fuses that may have blown they will also need to be replaced.

Unfortunately, that board is the inverter board. And for this model the inverter board is only supplied with the the PDP panel. The panel is quite expensive, here's a link if needed:
