Question about HP w2207 Monitor

1 Answer

When I turn on the computer and the monitor, the monitor does not recognize a signal from the computer. I have tried restarting the monitor and the computer, unplugging all cables including the power cables and reconnecting, I re-seated the graphics card, I tried using the VGA cable, but the monitor still seemed to be trying to recognize a DVI connection, even though the VGA cable was plugged in. Right after I turn on the monitor it says: VGA input, no input signal > DVI input, no input signal recommended setting, 1680x1050 After about 2 seconds it goes to sleep and that is it. No mouse clicks or keyboard strikes bring the monitor back. I know of no way to change any settings, reinstall drivers, etc. , because I cannot get the monitor to work, so I am effectively blind, whenever I want to test something out I have to manually shut down the computer and turn it on again. I encountered this problem in the past, and after much frustration and unplugging/re-connecting, the problem seemed to magically solve itself, but now it is back and nothing seems to work. The frustrating part is that it seems random, this started happening a few days ago when I tried turning on my computer.

Kkjsr00, You must narrow down the faulty component!!! You must prove what is working and what is not working!! Beg, borrow, steal a "known-good" monitor to prove your pc is operating perfectly and will display the WIN-desktop screen on it. If your pc is A-ok then visit this web blog:
http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ kkjsr00, when strange and weird stuff starts to appear on the screen of "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" back-lit lcd displays the first place I would look at would be the units internal "switch-mode-power-supply/ccfl inverter supply".. No, No, No, unit not going to sleep!!! SMPS/inverter going into SHUTDOWN mode having detected a fault condition with itself or other circuit and is trying to save itself from catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure. e.g. smoke, fire, burn down house, etc. Do some reading in my profile and those of other fixya tech's and you will find more than enough info to help with your problem. Good luck with repair of "flakey" solder joint or bad electrolytic filter capacitor PLAGUE problem. Yes, you sure have a lot of reading to do!! 12fixlouie or old file is louie12fix also try "buddymc" , "budmrtn" profiles for more info.

Connect the monitor to a different computer, to see if the monitor works at all.

Connect a different monitor to your computer, to see if your computer really is "sending" a video-signal through the "data" cable. If not, then either the data-cable or the video-card inside the computer is faulty.

This monitor works just fine on my e machines computer but when i plug it into my hp computer it cant find a signal.

Hi, the problem seems to be that your computer, do not recognize “which monitor is being used.” Follow these steps to correct the problem. First (right) click on an empty area of your Desktop Screen; next click Personalize, click Display Settings, click Identify Monitor. At this point, your monitor should be present, click on monitor. To finalize the application, click Apply! Next, click (OK). Restart your computer. I hope this solves your problem. Thanks paul7of9

I'm thinking your video card is sending a signal the monitor doesn't recognize.
You'll need to start the computer and hit F8 until you get the black and white menu. Choose the VGA mode and it should work well enough for you to adjust the refresh rate or the resolution to get the monitor to work

It will say no signal

It would be helpful if you had some more detail to this. However if it's saying no signal, and you're sure that that either the VGA cord is securely connected at both ends, then you may want to check the back of your PC to see if there is another video card installed, and try using that one. I've seen this happen thousands of times.

My monitor says no signal

You'll need to check the cable connections and the computer that it is attached to. The monitor may be going into standby mode because the computer went into Suspended/Hibernate mode. Try restarting the computer. If you're unable to do this, try a hard power off and then try to turn it back on.
