Olympus Digital camera memory card problem.

My camera is a Olympus model no: u730 with an xD memory card. I removed the memory card as I had done many times before and inserted it into the computer to upload mu photos. My first issue was that the card was only showing half of my photos on the computer and secodnly when I removed the card and inserted back into my camera and turned it on it went straight to a screen with the only 2 options: Power off or Format and will not budge from that screen.
Please help.

Clean the contacts with a pencil eraser gently, or use a little alcohol on a q-tip. The cards are pretty tough, but are not designed to be removed hundreds of times, can you use the USB cable? Clean and format. If the card has irreplaceable pics on it, you can use card recovery software available on the net.

I have a fe-200 olympus camera, after i transferred the images, the memory card say write protect, the memory card has no switch on the side, and now i cant take any pictures happened to both of my memory...

Your camera uses xD memory cards, and they never have a physical locking switch.

Your problem is most likely due to having used the xD card in an external card reader. The host pc sometimes sets the xD card as a "read only" drive. If so you must go back to the host pc and connect the xD card again. If using Windows then click on My Computer and highlight the xD card. Right click and select Properties from the device menu. Uncheck the box marked Read Only.

If that's not the cause of your problem then try re-formatting the card in your camera. NEVER re-format it using a computer.

If those options both fail, try another xD card which is known to be fully functional in your camera. This will determine whether the camera or the card is at fault. The camera is too old to merit the cost of a professional repair, and there's nothing more to be done with a faulty xD card, so replace whichever item is faulty.

You may also wish to consult the user manual for your model which you can download for free from Olympus in .pdf format.

I hope that I've been of assistance, please take a moment to rate my speedy and free answer.

Is olympus xd -picture card, type m+ 2gb compatable with camera Fujifilm Finepix.

XD cards are now obsolete memory cards. The cards were developed by Olympus and Fujifilm and released during the summer of 2002. There is now an adapter that allows an SD card to be used in place of the XD card You need to remember that the capacity should not exceed 2 GB or the camera will not be able to accept it. As far as I know cameras accepting XD cards were last produced in 2007, I don't know what specific models however the camera specifications would show what type card it uses.

Olympus cameras use xD memory cards. If this one uses memory cards (and I'm SURE it does) then it is simpler to just remove the card when you are ready to transfer pictures, and insert the card into a card reader. You may already have one, if not, you can get one for about $15.00. I have an Olympus and have all the cables and software but never use it. Olympus software isn't the best and the cables just get in the way. Cards and a reader are the way to go. Remember, you must use xD cards in Olympus and Fuji cameras. Avoid Kodak brand cards, they don't work in my Olympus.Olympus should have more info on thier website.

Hope this helps some,

it will work just fine! a xd card is a xd card-olympus only brands the card to make a few bucks off it-they are usually made by pny or sandisk.

XD mem card max for olympus D-560 Zoom

I hope this helps, I called Olympus for the exact same reason. The tech told me that the highest for the older D560 was 512mb. The other DX cards are for the newer models (same name!) that are 3D etc. effects of the newer models.

Panoramic Pictures

If I remember my last Olympus camera it would only work in Panorama mode with an official Olympus memory card. No third party cards would enable that feature. My instructions read "An Olympus xD-Picture Card is required for panorama shooting." If you are using an official Olympus xD-Picture card, there may be a problem with your camera.

Ruined Memory Card??

No one can expend efforts to diagnose, repair or let alone talk to you about what may be a 25 to 30 dollar memory card. I've had dozens of such failures but I deal with a fleet of devices and these are spread over the world now. The card, if the camera will not format it is tossed and you get a new one. Whatever you plugged it into is marked as suspect and I'd not do that again.
