Question about Dolphin Maytronics Advantage

Cut cord I purchased a used dolphin advantage cleaner at auction, the cord is cut about 8 in. from the unit, the rest of the cord is missing. I was just going to order a new cord, but after reading some post i read that the motors last only a few years, and this unit is mark mfg. 06. Is there anyway to test the motor before buying a new cord? Thank You Pat

Yes but it is going to be tricky. You will need to open up the power supply and pull the black and white wire from the cable socket. Note what position they were connected to for reassembly later. Now strip the cable back enough to get to the wires inside and connect them white to white and black to black. Turn the dolphin upside down (tracks towards the ceiling) and turn it on. It should go thru a series of motions lasting about 30 seconds and then stop. If it does it has just passed a self test and will likely work in your pool.     My Maytronics end that goes into the transformer pulled completly apart. No idea of which 4 positions the black and white wires go into. I tried 1 and 3, 2 and 4 but unti does not moved. Did not try 1and 2 or 3 and 4.

It will not run upright AND out of the water without sensing it is not in the water and upright...it shuts down, hence the self-test which is with the unit inverted...

It is most likely an issue in the motor pack with the board. Parts are not sold for the motor pack; only new motor packs. Dolphin pool cleaner stops working after a 15 to 30 minutes. Even though the cycle time is set to 8 hours. How can I fix ?


It sounds like you might have a problem with the impeller or drive shaft, which are both common problems with these pool cleaners. Clean around your impeller and your wheels, axles, etc. If these do not cure your problem, it is probably an issue with your electrical system.

The renters of my house destroyed the power cord of my Dolphin diagnostic. Where can I buy parts, or just have service on the unit?


Many motor rebuild shops specialize in pool and evapritive cooler motors. This would fall into the first catagory. Usually youi can find these in the Yellow Pages. This can also be done with a good leingth of "S" cord and a plug but the connection at the unit needs to be water tight and should be done by a qulified shop. Good luck.

My dolphin diagnostic cleaner for my below ground pool, just stopped after years. I went to turn it on yesterday and there is power to the power box as the light goes on, but the unit is not moving. I am...


If your unit has a fuse it will be on the back side of the power supply. If the light on the power supply switch is on, it will not be the fuse though.

Try turning the cleaner upside down on the deck and connect it as you otherwise would. Power it up and it should go through a self test process that takes about 40 seconds to complete. If it turns the tracks in both direction with and without the impeller turning, it is fine and will likley start working in the pool again.
