My Toshiba 50HP66 will not turn on. It powers up like it is trying to turn on, then it makes a weird "ding" sound and turns off. It will do this over and over until I unplug it.

Exact same issue. Came home today. Go to turn tv on. Red light go to Green for like 5 seconds then back to Red. No picture comes up. This really sucks. Been a really good TV for a while now.

My 50HP66 popped last week. Now when I plug it in, it starts up, makes a funny buzzing noise, and cycles off - all this without me turning it on at all. After reading several discussion threads including this one, I found a board online at Discount-Merchant.com, bought it, and replaced the old board. It didn't do anything, so I sent it back. I have found another board at Partstore.com, but it lists the part number as Toshiba Part# 75003044 which isn't displayed on my pcb at all. My board says APS-219 and has the word SONY on it. Can anyone tell me if this is the same board or where I can find the correct part?

    Thank you!

same problem here. purchased 1/07 and now no waranty. toshiba say maybe a plasma gas cell break. gave me local reptech to call. said hardly any calls received about toshiba plasmas. have anyone got a fix on this yet?

Same exact problem here. Started awhile ago by randomly shutting down. Then a month later it started becoming distorted in picture in random flashes. Finally, progressed to distorted most of the time and random shutdowns. Then, it would only turn on to a black screen with sound. Now, it turns on, goes 'zing', shuts down, and repeats.

Has anyone confirmed that the powerboard is the solution to these issues?

my tv is not turning on it click but not happening

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2008

Same deal. TV just clicks on and off. Every site I reference for this issue suggests replacing the power supply. So far no one actually posted if this was the solution or not. From what I can tell the clicking is coming from a solinoid on the power supply. I used a multimeter on the board itself and there is current able to pass through the board however it is erradict as if there is a short. Anyone know what the fix is?

Coppell TV Repair can have your board serviced or, sometimes, traded in (if working boards are avaialble for purchasing at the time):

Hope it helps!

SOURCE: My Toshiba 50HP66 will not turn on.

Most TVs have a "Protection Mode" that turns the unit off when it detects a failed part inside the tv.
The most likely the tv has a power supply related problem. I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

I think that the pop you heard was an electrolytic capacitor blowing its top on the picture frame board. If you are able to check this for yourself by looking on the board for the one/s with a bulging top or are a brownish/black colour like something has caught fire. And also in this situation smell can be of great help as it will smell burnt out but PLEASE before putting your nose or anything else in the tv take all necessary precautions against electric shock and discharge any electrolytic capacitors in the vicinity. If you are not able to do this yourself find a competant technician. Hope this helps.

Have you tried to unplug set for a while and turn back on?

If that does not help contact Toshiba to see if common problem on this model and if any possible software upgrade is available for this problem.

If still no luck someone will have to examine it and decide which board is causing this and replace it.
