My computer was 3 weeks old and this happened, it was a trogen or virus...calls to Dell ad Hp told us it was a virus that there was no help except to pay someone like norton or geek squad to remove it...we have 2 other computers so we knew our data was safe and reinstalled the windows xp programs...it works great now...like before....we think fromwhat was said by everyone we talked to that it was picked up when our grandaughter was down loading from music sites...she will not be allowed to do that again.

Please press F8 several times during startup. When you get screen asking you to choose what you want to do please choose Safe Mode. Then you need to get to System Restore console you do this by going. Start----> All Programs-----> Accessories---->System Tools-----> Sytem Restore Choose the date when your PC was last working properly and click Next Next Yes. This should restore your Computer to previous state. Good Luck

Reboot the computer and keep pressing F8 till you see the advanced start-up options screen. Once it appears choose Safe-mode. When XP loads, click Start-> Control Panel and remove the software that you have installed. That should get your notebook back to working mode. Once its done let me know and we will deal with the bluetooth.

Rebooting is tipical of Windows XP when there is an important error. Most of the time this error is coming from the hardware.
There is a way to know the error code that make Windows XP mad, but you have to eliminate the automatic restart option.
With your mouse right click on My Computer, select properties, select advanced and you should see something similar:
70d8605.gif
deselect Automatically restart.
At this point next time you will have the error instead of rebooting you will see a blue screen with some message at the top and some code at the bottom, please write them down and post them here.

In case you cannot even enter in Windows XP because is keeping rebooting too fast, try to do the above steps in Safe mode.
To enter in Windows in Safe mode you have to press F8 as soon as you boot and before you see the windows logo on you screen, then select safe mode and repeat the steps above.

Last but not least, please send me the exact type of motherboard, processor and memory that you are using.

Had a power failure now my HP Laptop just keep rebooting, i can't start it in safe mode it just does the same thing. It start to power up the windows logo comes up then it flashes a blue screen with...

If the laptop was up and running as the power fail happened, it probably zapped the XP OS,and possibly created a bad sector on the hard drive. You could try reloading the laptop with XP. If it finds a bad sector during installation it should mark and ignore it.

HOW CAN I FIX MY COMPUTER? ITS READING UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME?

You need your Windows XP cd for this fix.

Boot from the Windows XP CD and at the first prompt, press "r" for repair. Press 1 when asked to choose windows installation and then enter the admnistrator password. If you don;t have one, just press "enter" and it should show you "c:\windows>"

At this prompt, type the following

chkdsk /r

THis should take quite sometime but will fix the problem at the end. when you get the c:\windows prompt again, type the word "exit" and your system will reboot and load windows XP normally

Howzit
If you had no problems installing the XP second time around your problem is definitely not the harddrive. Suspect that that error you got was a blue screen. You problem most probably lies with your memory modules (RAM) if you are using more than one memory module then you need to check that they work on the same frequency (probably not since you are having this problem) If you are in fact using more than one module try just using one. If you only have one then you might try another as this one could be faulty. As to NTFS it is the best suitable format for XP therefore that is not a problem. Let me know how things turn out. Thanks

Regards.
