I downloaded to the latest firmwire update to my usb for the sharp bd-hp22u player and when i try to install it it keeps saying no update found and i tried two different usb's and the player keeps sayin no update found and im tryin to watch avatar on blu-ray and its not showing

I had the exact same problem! I realized though that I had to extract the Zipped files so my Sharp BD-HP22U could read them. Basically, I extracted the files onto another USB then placed that into my player and it finally recognized the files and began downloading the update. Avatar (Blu-ray), now plays! However, the chapter selection pops up on and off the screen during play. I guess I'll have to figure that out now. Anyone know how to fix that?

Sounds like the laser maybe the issue. I would take it back and ask for a refund.

Blue ray won't play Avatar?
There is a firmware update for the BD-HP22. I had the same problem with Avatar but after I installed the firmware update, it loaded and ran smooth. Use the USB flash drive that came with the player or any other usb flash drive to load the firmware update. Check the link below for instructions and update file from Sharp's website.

Download the lastest update 4/26/2010 you will need a USB that has been formatted wit FAT 32 to install the update on your machine. follow the instructions from the Blu ray player. Refer to your manual if you need the instructions. I've just updated my BDHP21U and it works great now.

Bd hp210 will not play disc (sharp)
I have the same problem but I did download the updates for both my Sony and Sharp Blu Rays and Avatar played wonderfully but unfortunately a few days later both players stop playing all Blu Rays. Has anyone had the same problem?

Update wont install keeps saying i dont have an update to download off of the usb device. tried two different usb sticks. still a no go
have you extracted the files from the zip folder on to your usb stick. it will not work if you leave them in the zip folder.

How do i unlock the region code on my new sharp blu-ray model BD-HP22X?
You could try >Menu >settings >parental control> "set a 4 digit password" then change the region code to your country.

Unless you have my problem and updated the firmware incorrectly and nothing changes it...

Want to update my sharp blue ray disk player bd-hp21u - does not play current disks
To obtain the software update file, please call 1-800-BE-SHARP (23-74277). Save the update file into a USB drive.
  1. Insert the USB memory device
    with the update file into the BD
    STORAGE/SERVICE terminal on
    rear of this player.
  2. Press SETUP to display the SETUP
    MENU screen.
  3. Press arrow keys to select
    “SETTINGS”, then press ENTER.
  4. Press UP/DOWN keys to select “SOFTWARE
    UPDATE”, then ENTER.
  5. Enter the 4-digit number using 0-9.
  6. Press ENTER to start checking data
    in the USB memory device.
  7. During the data checking,
    “Checking” blinks.
  8. The current version of this unit software
    and the version of the update file on the
    USB memory device are displayed. To
    update this player software with update
    file, select “YES”, and press ENTER.
  9. If the USB memory device is not
    properly installed or the correct update
    file cannot be found on the USB
    memory device, an error message is
    displayed.Check the file on the USB memory
    device, and then reinsert the USB
    memory device correctly.
  10. Press ENTER to start updating.The screen becomes dark for a
    while until the update screen can be
    displayed. Please wait for the update
    screen to appear. Do not unplug the AC
    cord
  11. When the software is successfully
    updated, a screen is displayed
    indicating that the update process is
    completed.If the update has failed, check the file
    in the USB device and try Software
    Update again.
  12. Press POWER to turn off the player.
  13. Remove the USB memory device.

I have a BD-HP20U Blu-ray disc player. I have downloaded the software update but the player will not recognize the file on the USB device. I have followed the directions very closely and have re-tried...
I had the same experience, trying several different USB sticks with different capacities to see if it would make a difference.

What DID make a difference was resetting the BD-HP20U to factory settings, and THEN installing the update from the USB stick. This time, the unit recognized the file on the USB device and installed the update.
