Question about Sony VAIO VGN-SZ330P/B Notebook

Cd drive on laptop not recognised by OS

Using XP, the cd drive does work, it reads discs and can boot from cd drive.
The issue I have is the OS doesn't recognise it is there.
The cd spins round, but no prompt to open or run from the drive. It doesn't appear from my computer.
I have looked for info else where but all i can find is the drive is plug 'n play, so no driver is required.
It used to work, then one day when trying to view some images, the cd drive was inaccessible.
The model is sz3hp/b
the product finder couldn't find it!

If CD /DVD drive is not listed, perform a full scan with your antivirus software to check for and remove viruses. Viruses can sometimes prevent Windows from recognizing the drive.

Hi my LT Aspire 5536G turned off itself when I was using it. Now when I start it the screen is black with this message - Base Code PXE-2.1 v1.0 PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable PXE-M0F:...

The message you are getting is the laptop telling you it cannot find a boot device. The Broadcom message is the last option in the boot sequence (network boot).

I'm not sure what OS you are using, so the following is loosely based on a standard recovery, PLEASE don't just award a 1 thumb if this does not solve the issue, rather don't leave feedback.

First of all: Boot and press F2 or F10 or del to access the Bios, see that the hard drive is actually seen in the bios, if it is NOT, please repost, this points to HDD failure

Secondly, if it is, in the Bios, set the 1st boot device to DVD Rom. Insert the Windows Disc and IF using XP, wait until it finds the old OS and do a recovery. IF using Vista or Windows 7, its more or less the same, run a repair and if you get the OS back up and running, download a comand line virus scanner such as DRWEB Cure it and run a thorough scan for viruses on the hard drive.

Before condemning the hard drive, try removing it and re-inserting it, see if the bios recognises it.
I'd also advise downloading a disc checking utility to make sure the hard drive is still workable

pls note that these kind of problems are usually caused when either the xp cd disc is bad or the DVD/CD drive is weak. so pls kindly try with another cd drive and along side another bootable windows xp.

Samsung notebook states cannot start as windows file missing and to use disc to repair, however as it is a note book there is no disc drive or disc.

You need a repair/reset CD, and you may need an USB external drive to read it if yours doesn't work or isn't available. The CD may be obtained by Samsung tech support. For Windows XP and Vista you just select OS installation and hit 'R' for repair.

Alternatively you can note down the name of the missing file, locate and save it on a USB key from a computer with the same OS version, and boot the PC using Universal Boot CD (UBCD). Then just copy the file where it should be. Unless you're short a specific driver or VXD, most other files are drop-in compatible.

Unable to install XP OS to MSI lap top

insert a bootable xp cd into the cd drive and hit enter continuosly...it ll ask to hit any key to continue from cd...hit any screen and follow the onscreen instructions...

if it doesnt works, try this....
u can log in to the setup by pressing del key or F2(depends upon make and model) and change the drive booting order...change the first booting device as CD/DVD and second booting device to HDD...
now it ll prompt you to hit any key to start from CD/DVD....
Make sure you have inserted a bootable XP CD in CD drive....Bootable XP CD's can be created only from another bootable XP cd by taking an image from that cd and writing it back to the cd...you can use NERO Copy disc option for this purpose...it ll create an iso image and you can use only this to write into the disc...

I need to reformat my NEC e3100 because im experiencing all kinds of internet issues and software issues where my computer doesnt even recognise any programs installed. how do i go about resetting it. i...

To reformat usually you either use a windows install disc and reinstall windows, or you use a boot disk and a format utility, depending on the windows version. There are also format discs such as UBD that also work. When you format your drive, you lose all the information on it. You also will need a windows disc and serial number to install after a format.

The easier way to get your computer working is to simply use your windows disc to re-install windows. Before doing that it is a good idea to run several different virus and spyware scanners as well as a registry cleaner. RegScrubXP is a good one to use. When windows is running, simply browse to your windows disc and run setup.exe, that will reinstall windows over top the copy you have and replace any damaged or missing files. Then reinstall all your programs and it should all work. Programs can be re-installed over top even if they already are installed, basically all that happens is the missing files are replaced. Re-installing does not give you two coies of the same program - it just makes the copy that is already there work again.
Windows 2000 and XP have a feature for repairing also, in the start/run menu, type sfc /scannow and put your windows CD in, it will then check all files and replace any damaged or missing ones.
