Question about Polaroid TLX-01511C LCD TV
The display has gone dark, black. On startup, the display lights as normal while the Polaroid logo displays, but just goes blood RED for a moment and then BLACK after maybe 4 or 5 seconds. Using the remote, it apparently still changes channels and I still hear audio, so it appears to be just the LAMP or LAMP POWER SUPPLY which has failed. I can find NO information on the guts. I tried pulling the back cover off with no luck. With all the screws removed, the back is still so tight (maybe glued!) I was afraid I would break it if I simply tried to pry it apart. Is there a trick to opening the back? If I could get it open, at least I could check the lamp power to see it is bulb or supply. I can replace parts myself if I could find a source. I checked with Polaroid about out of warranty repair and they quoted a replacement cost instead, of more than it cost when I bought it new, and that was for a refurbished one with only a 30 day warranty! And they wanted the failed unit back. OK, so I am looking for information on replacing the lamp or the lamp power supply, where I can get parts, a service manual, SOMETHING. I'm tempted to just buy another, swap the internals and then attempt fraud by trying to get it repaired under the warranty of the new one I buy, but that is NOT exactly honorable, and I'll bet there are internal identifiers which would expose my plan anyway, so I'd probably lose. I would much rather fix it myself than commit fraud...
