You likely have a clutch problem, never saw one that a simple adjustment would fix. I'd take off the tiller (there are two bolts that hold the tiller portion to the transmission, and check to make sure the clutch is sliding in and out. My hunch is either the lever is loose on the shaft or the allen-head little bolt that they use to shift the clutch has come out. Be sure to grease the clutch while you're in there.

This should be covered in your owners manual. Shame on them if they didn't mention this.

It's likely that your clutch needs adjustment. To adjust, you just need to loosen the two screws on the plate and slide it a bit so the clutch better engages the rear dog clutch. Have you ever taken the tiller portion off the transmission to grease the clutch? If not, before adjusting it you might want to do that. It could be that the clutch isn't sliding back far enough to engage the rear end and a little grease is all it needs. This service requirement is explained in the owners manual for the tiller. One last point, the tiller must be in neutral when engaging the pto clutch. From your note, it sounded like you were engaging the clutch with the forward/reverse lever in the forward position. The lever must be in neutral when engaging the pto clutch.

My gears grind when i try and engage the pto


try engaging at a slower engine speed or engine off, if off engage then try, if grinding now take it apart and change worm and gear

I have a husqvarna 4623 zero turn and when I would pull up the pto the mower would die. I replaced the fuel filter and now it won't even stay running


Most likely the battery isn't holding enough charge which is why the PTO won't engage.
Likely you have air in the fuel line/fuel filter which lets it run for awhile then it fuel starves.

John deere 2210 engine dies when engaging pto, seat switch good


are you sitting in the seat or have you jumped the safety switch under the seat before you engage the PTO I believe our tractors use an electric solenoid to apply hydraulic pressure to a wet clutch inside the trans axle I would think it would be OK with your chipper I have a 450 tiller that was built for the older 400 models 425 445 455 that I now use with my 2210 If I hit a large root or stone when using it with my old 445 it would stall the tractor at full power. Now with the 2210 it will actually slip the clutch on the tiller s PTO shaft I think the correct approach would be to increase your RPM s gradually or start increasing the power just as you trip the PTO switch. You want enough RPM s to create enough hydraulic pressure to run the PTO circuit so that you don t slip the wet clutch anymore than necessary and you want the RPM s low enough so that you don t shock the mechanical systems too severely at start up

Sounds more like a PTO clutch failure, rather than the switch. The clutch is mounted on the engine shaft, between the hydrostatic drive pulley (nearest the chassis) and the mower deck belt pulley (farther from the chassis).
Since it's an expensive part, make sure the problem isn't in the switch or wiring first. You could do that by probing the wires to the PTO clutch with an automotive test light - they are inexpensive and handy. Clip the ground wire of the test light to the chassis, and probe the hot wire to the clutch (it's the one that doesn't connect to ground) when the engine is running and the PTO switch is engaged. Obviously a helper has to be in the seat, and you should be careful doing this. If the light glows brightly, and the clutch doesn't engage, you definitely have a bad clutch. Good luck! PTO making noise when engaged in forward drive


It's 90 weight gear oil but most likely the output shaft seal has been gone for a consdierable amount of time and has leaked out and is just now making noise, they don't normally make noise right away after the oil runs out. put oil up to the plug fill hole and watch if it runs out the shaft seal if it does then it will have ti be repaiered.

PTO CONTROLS. How do you engage and disengage PTO.


The tractor is not a 6300 is it.If it' not you need to adjust the cable for the p.t.o. until it will stay down.Don't turn the turnbuckle too much at a time because there is a fine line between the won't engage and the won,t disengage adjustment.
