Question about Computers & Internet

My Samsung 2243BWX Screen has this problem everytime I turn it on and use it. The screen, on average once a minute, will go black for a few seconds and then come on again. Sometimes it happens once every 5 minutes, sometimes every 10 seconds! It's kind of like it's refreshing the screen. I've had a go at playing with the "Display Time" in the monitor's settings menu and set it to the maximum 200secs - but I don't think that's the issue as the blackouts haven't changed a bit. Also - everytime the screen does this for a couple of seconds, when it returns it will always have the little dialogue box in the top left hand corner of the screen that says "ANALOGUE 64.8kHz 60Hz PN 1680x1050" which is just the standard infomation about the monitor settings but it's weird that it pops up everytime the screen blackout and refreshes itself. It's just extremely annoying, especially when I'm trying to work or play a game or watch a video. HELP PLEASE!

Hi,

As per your description the monitor is disconnected from the computer and then reconnected. That is why the message pops up. To troubleshoot you may have to open the PC cover and investigate but we will leave it as a last resort.

To begin, you must disconnect the PC and monitor from the power source.

First look at the back panel of the LCD and check the connection of the VGA cable. There are two screws which you can turn by hand or a flat screw driver. Loosen them and remove the jack. Do the same with the other end connected to the PC's VGA out.

If you have a can of compressed air or a blower use it to remove dust off the jacks and replug them making sure the screws are tight but not too tight or you will damage the connector. Just tighten them by hand.

Now see if the problem is gone or not.

The next step would be to re-seat the video card if you are using a PCI or AGP card. If its an onboard VGA then skip this step. You must take caution or you will end up with a non working PC. If you are not comfortable doing this ask a friend or take it to a computer shop. But its not that difficult. Try to do it with a frind's help to save cash.

If the issue persist which is unlikely then try a new cable. You LCD also has a jack for DVI-D input:

You can also use a DVI-D or VGA to DVI-D cable if you r video card supports. Refer to the quick start guide or manual on how to perform connections.

Screen goes black for a second or two every few minutes

This indicates the inverter transformer is going or a capacitor issue.

Adjust the screen contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the down-arrow key for a few seconds to lighten the screen. If you go too far, repeat the process using the 2ND and up-arrow keys.

The monitor startup and few seconds later it turn

You are going to have to open up the monitor, please read below if you are going to DIY.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Samsung SyncMaster 204bw....keeps going black every now and then with the power light flashing, i don't understand what is wrong with it :S please help?? i have to restart my system everytime...

Similar problem with Samsung Syncmaster T260 at 1920x1200 on HIS Radeon X1950XTX video card. Black horizontal stripes lasting 1/60th of a second or so every few seconds, then black screen for 2 seconds, then fine again.

I Set the catalyst control center control panel for the graphics card to Alternate DVI operational mode under the Digital panel attributes item. Setting the screen to 1600x1200 also seems to stop it doing this. BUT...it didn't used to do it. Bought it in November, and it didn't start doing this until late January. Go figure.

Tv screen goes black for a few seconds

do you get sound while screen does black? what do you mean by "until eventually it has turned black and will not come back"? is it black from the minute you turn the tv on untill you turn it off? if sound is good but picture is black, it may be the resault of a fried monitor tube, in this case replacement will cost alot. if sound is dead also, them it is probobly power supply related issue. get out your DMM and measure the voltages in the power supply. When the screen goes black, is there still regulated B+ going to the circuitry? Do you still have HV? Is the filament of the CRT lit? Does the set still have a raster (you may have temporarily increase the screen setting to see it)? Do you measure any of the flyback derived B+ voltages that go to the video processing, tuner, Vertical Deflection, and other circuitry?
