Atomikhound, May need to find correct drivers for this unit. Try search at HP website using the unit's product number on rear of the monitor. What is date of manufacture on this unit? It seems that this monitor only works with a Presario 4800 series desktop computer for which it was custom designed for. The article I read at "Epinions.com" said it should be used as a boat anchor if you can't get a copy of original 48xx system restore disks that have the special "drivers" needed for it. Good luck. 12fixlouie

SOURCE: The moniter blacked out, blue

Unplug power. Unplug VGA cable. Remove back of monitor. (four small Philips headed screws along the bottom rear. Remove screws attaching Monitor to it's base. Carefully, lean the screen away from back of case. Gently unplug 25 pin cable from the screen.
Connect AC power.
Screen should power on Gray to White. Ble light comes on Blue.Flickers then changes to Amber.
Reconnect VGA cable. Monitor should work.
Close up the monitor in reverse order to opening it.
If these steps don't solve your monitor, consider replacing as cost of repairs may shock you.

HP laptop wont start up or wont connect to moniter

If you plug the VGA external lead in before powering the laptop up. If nothing on the screen and because the fan is running hard, there may be a GPU issue caused by over heating. The GPU may need the solder removing and leaded solder replaced to get it to work again. A specialist job!

My aspire 5920 screen is black and will not work on a external moniter either.

Well, i cant tell you what is actually wrong with your tv but, i can tell you how to fix it. You see my tv does this a lot. Here are some ways that might help you: 1. have you tried leaving the tv off a whole day? 2. did you buy a new one yet?...I'm sure that there are a lot of other ways to solve it but, i could only think of two. I hope that i have helped you with your problem. Have a nice day fixing your tv.

When my computer is on the moniter is blank.

The monitor only has one cable and it is keyed to fit one way. They are always located under the top bezel. Should have roughly 20 pins and the wire will flow up into the display. If the screen is very very dim (look carefully) then your inverter board is most likely bad these run 40-120 dollars depending on model and are located along the bottom edge of the display itself. If the screen is completely black, try plugging an external monitor into your laptop (make sure you try toggling the display mode) [typically Fn + F7 or whichever says LCD or has a monitor icon.] If the external monitor works then your screen is most likely the problem and will need to be replaced. If the monitor does not work, the motherboard needs to be replaced. You will be hard pressed to find any schematics for motherboards but you could dis assembly the the laptop and easily check for descended capacitors, burns and the light though most of the time I doubt you will be able to see the damage.
Best of Luck
