There are 2 situations that may be stopping your DVD from working.
1) All DVD players are manufactured to work with a certain region's DVD discs. This is due to the licensing of DVD software. This way if you buy your player from North America it will only play North America's regional discs. If you look on the sticker on the back panel of your player it will state the region that the player is programmed for. Your DVD player is run by an operating system that in some ways is similar to a computers operating system. Just like computers, some players can be re-programmed to play any region's DVD's. Fortunately your player does have a hack available to clear your region code. Go to the following webpage if you want to try out the hack:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/samsung-dvd-p144/4365

Of course if you choose to try the hack you do so at your own risk. Hacking the player will void any warranty you may have left on your player.

2) The other issue you may have is either a defective or dirty laser lens, or some form of foreign material on the DVD itself. Although there are lens cleaners that you can buy some are not very effective and others might scratch your lens. This will lead to a costly repair bill for you. There are cleaners available for the DVD's as well. Normally, as long as you buy a name brand cleaning kit you should get excellent results with it.

Usually if you only have 1 or 2 DVD's that will not play the problem is probably some foreign matter on the DVD itself, or the equipment that burned it may have been mis-aligned.

In closing check the DVD that you are trying to play to see if the region code is on the label. If the DVD is not the same region as your player, you may choose to try the hack. If it works the DVD should then play. If the region is not the issue try a good DVD cleaner and if necessary have a local shop clean your laser lens.

Check your progressive button below the VHS. You probably have an interlaced tv and are playing in progressive.

Brand new DVDs will not play in Samsung Progressive Scan v3650

If you're trying to play through to your TV through the RF out on your combo unit, it's probably the copy protection that's stopping the playback. Try through the composite/audio jacks.

SD-K530SU - Turning Off Progressive Scan Mode

Once the setting for Progressive Scan output is entered,
an image will only be visible on a Progressive Scan compatible
TV or monitor. If you set Progressive Scan to On in
error, you must reset the unit. Pointing the remote at the
player, press the STOP (x) button to stop any disc that is
playing. Next, press the STOP (x) button again and hold it
for five seconds before releasing it. The video output will
be restored to the standard setting, and a picture will once
again be visible on a conventional analog TV or monitor.
