Question about Planar PT1814NUV 18.1 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor

2 Answers

I have a Planar PT1814NUV monitor that powers up, but displays wide (about 1") vertical bands. They are white & magenta, alternating like prison garb (only vertical) superimposed over the monitor controls window. Any idea what's wrong with it and if/how it can be repaired? Thanks!

    Thanks for responding!
Does this mean the whole panel or just components like the fuse(s)? If the entire panel, is it even worth it?

This the symptom of failing T-CON board which is part of the LCD panel assembly, the LCD panel will have to be replaced.

It will get worst with more lines/bands.

Jyjazz, If all connections have been checked and are still good (not loose) then check the units "date of manufacture" on rear of unit!!! It could be that it is 6 to 8 years old and has had a long life compared to all other brands that never made it past 4 to 5 years of age. Yes, you will need to make decision based on good approximation of the total "on" hours this unit has seen during it's lifetime and the last known GOOD screen images that were displayed. Do a little bit of reading of my fixya profile and those of "budmrtn" and "buddymc" for more info on getting monitor repaired or trading in for new. Bye for now. 12fixlouie

That is the symptom of failed T-CON board (part of the LCD panel assembly, new panel will be needed), you can try reseating the ribbon connector on the LCD panel first.

My hp vs 15 displays vertical color stripes that alternate different colors wether its hooked up tp computer or not what is wrong, is it junk

It may sound strange but be absolutely sure the cable is plugged into the monitor. Adapter on the computer. The serial adapter on the back looks just like video. Video actually has a faintly noticeable monitor icon rigtht next to it. Plugging into a serial can eventually blow out your monitor. Also, a.badcable can do the same thing. And if you have messed up the monitor's settings you will see the same

I have a 2inch wide band down middle of screen on

1) Have you installed new drivers or software or drivers? If so, remove them and restart the computer.
2) Try applying pressure with your fingers on top of the screen. If the band dissapears or dimishes, you may have a broken screen and it will need to be replaced.

Vertical white wide band - Shivering fonts

Unfortunately that sound like a defective LCD panel. You can verify this by plugging the system into an external monitor. As long as the shimmering band does not appear on external display then it is the LCD. If it is under warranty I would suggest taking it into Apple.

Is the white band always there? it is either a problem with the lcd panel most likely, or the graphics card. try a different monitor if you have one.

White 1 inch vertical band on display

just a thought.. Either your Graphics card or your Video Card has gone bad.. unfortunately DELL has a tendency of putting the graphics ON-BOARD and IF the onboard grqaphics card is bad, you'll need to get into the BIOS and turn the onboard graphics off then purchase an after market Graphics driver.. IMPORTANT: make certain that the graphic cars is compatable with the DELL PC OR purchase a less Proprietary system

The white screen tells me that the display cable (inside your monitor) may be unattached or broken.
The color bands if they are vertical or horizontal lines tell me that your display cable needs to be replaced.

So overall replace your display cable. If this doesn't entirely fix the problem your logic board (inside the monitor) needs to be replaced.

Wide vertical black and white bands

Hi, You may want to try and unplugging the power and video connectors of the Dell monitor. Check for anything out of the ordinary with the AC plug and the video connector. If none, plug them back in making sure that they are snug and fitted properly. If problem persist, see if it is possible to rotate the way the AC plug is connected to the mains (sometimes this works and can be done if you are not using 3-prong or the uneven 2-prong AC plug. Sometimes, this can also be done on the other end of the AC plug). Check your docking station (though unlikely but possibly). If still a no go and your laptop works ok, then your external monitor needs some looking at. This would involve circuit analysis and component level repair. Perhaps your best bet is to have a qualified professional take a look at it. Good luck and pls post back how things turn up or if you need further information. Kind regards.
