Question about Whirlpool 24 in. DU1100XTP Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

Whirlpool Model DU8770XY purchased new in 1992 has just started to overflow through the air gap kit 300096. This unit has been working fine for the past 18 years. I checked the unit and drain tail section under the sink along with the P-trap and the water flows through them just fine. The kit is clean with no visible obstruction.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold dishwasher water overflowing and will not shut off

There should be a dome shaped float switch on the inside bottom of the washer. Make sure it is free to move up and down, or is able to float (possibly cracked or broken).

Yes you just need to run the hose to the top of the counter hieght to create a high loop. Basically does the same thing as an air gap. Here is a video showing this

Haier Split Air Conditioner Outdoor unit not working

Check or replace the run capacitor for the compressor.
If that is good, or replacing it does not help, try what we in the industry call a "Hard Start Kit".
No matter if that works or fails, (The hard start kit), call the warranty center or where you purchased the unit.

Why does air gap overflow in the first two minutes of the "normal" cycle?

Air gap usually has a valve(sometimes rubber flap) that either is not working or is leaking. Needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Bad run capacitor or bad compressor. If you hear an occasional click from the compressor try a new run cap and then a hard start kit. Otherwise it's more economical to purchase a new unit.

Seems you answered your own question here. You need to make an air gap in the drain hose - take as much slack as possible and make a curve (upside down U) under you sink as high as you can go. Make sure you clip ot to back of the cabinet to stabilize it. Good luck

New Whirlpool Dishwasher filler overflows.

New Whirlpool Dishwashers will NOT accept the same "volume" of water that was desired by the same products of 25 years ago. Therefore the old 3/8" ID copper supply is too large and will overflow the tub filler/aireator (out the air vent holes). I just installed a new dishwasher supply kit consisting of a new 3/8" OD stainless braded hose with an ID of about 1/4". This delivers less volume than that recommended (in the installation manual) and therfore does restrict the flow a bit. However, the flowrate is adequate and the new dishwasher now works perfectly with no water overflow on the floor . . .

Mover agitator slips

The agitator bolt may be loose, or the dogs may need replaced. The following link explains how to access and repair:

You can view what agitator dogs look like at Just type in your model number and look for item 18 under the Agitator, Basket and Tub heading. A replacement kit only costs about $5. For a bit more, you can purchase the entire agitator repair kit for about $11 (item 22). The exploded view diagram can also assist you.

Your agitator has a cap that comes off the center post, followed by an air gap cap inside. The air gap cap just pulls out, exposing the agitator bolt. The upper portion of the agitator (called the "auger") will lift off once the bolt is removed.

NOTE: Make sure when you reassemble the agitator that you remember to reinsert the air gap cap and that the rubber o-ring gasket is intact. Without it, water will eventually work into the gearcase (transmission). Also make sure you do not overtighten the agitator bolt. Doing so may damage the agitator or restrict its movement. Tighten until snug.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Pan that catches water under freezer side overflows

That is pretty unusual unless you live in a humid area. Some units have a switch that allows you to adjust for this and it simply defrosts every 12 instead of 24 hours. Also, the fan that cools the coils under the unit may not be running at normal speed since the warmth of the coils and the fan generally suffice to return the accumulated water into the air. You are right to check the door seals since if these are no longer seating well, external humidity will be gathered by the cooling coils and subsequently become the water collected below that is plaguing you.
