Check the heating element, some are split and if both elements don't heat this will cause your complaint, then check the high-limit switch and or cycling thermostat(s) on the element,if they get weak they will overheat too soon and shut off power to the element too soon and this will increase dry times also

Dryer takes a long time to dry

If the dryer won't takes to long to dry, check the venting. A clogged or partially clogged vent will reduce the air flow through the dryer and greatly increase the drying time.

Dryer takes 2 or 3 cycles to dry

A Whirlpool dryer either heats or doesn't heat . This problem is an indication of a blocked vent hose , from the rear of the dryer to the outside vent outlet . Try removing the vent hose from the back of the dryer and dry a load , to verify this problem . Wet lint inside the hose also means the air cannot escape to the outside .

Dryer takes a long time to dry.

This sounds like the vent is plugged up. The dryer gets rid of moisture through the dryer vent and hose. When this gets plugged up it will take a long time to dry or the hi limit will shut it off. When the dryer vent or hose is partialy blocked it will take vary tong times to dry the clothes and will eventualy cause the dryer to stop drying all together.
