Question about Canon Digital Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera with EF-S 17-85mm IS Lens

1 Answer

Put a new fully charged battery in - the camera would lasted for a couple of minutes and then would not switch on. The battery works fine in an identical camera. Put in a second battery - that worked for a bit then started flashing battery problem and wouldn't switch on. 5 minutes later - it did switch on - lasted for a short time and then started flashing ERR 99, and then wouldn't switch on again. Battery works fine in an identical camera. 10 minutes later - started working again, but the Sigma lens I had would not focus - I had to do it manually, then the camera just stopped again - tried another battery and nothing. 4 hours later, with the third battery in it switched on and worked fine??????

It is due to some kind of electrical contact failure.

Nikon s9300 - When I turn it on, the lense fully extends, but the screen stays black. I have to pop the battery out, then put back in for the lense to retract. Battery is fully charged and even tried

When the battery is fully charged, please put it in again. That means, if it is still in, remove it once again.
Switch it on, and even if you don't see a thing try to make a picture.
Then press the display button several times, to see if anything comes on the screen again.
If the camera does not respond after that, you should go back to the dealer, of contact Nikon.

I have the same problem with a Canon Powershot s20. Bought approx 5 years ago...

Many digital cameras (eg Samsung D53, Nikon 2100) have extremely poor battery life with alkaline batteries (under 20 shots!). Sometimes they won't even take a single picture.

Try using rechargeable batteries or "oxyride" disposable batteries. They perform infinately better.

After recording with a full new battery (and the old one) the power just shuts off after about 15 min. Why?

The camcorder will shut off (i.e. go into "sleep" mode) after a few minutes of inactivity - to save your battery, particularly when your battery is at half or lower.
I find that my (fully charged) battery lasts only about 30 minutes (or less, if I use the zoom a lot, or, I use the filming (night) light, or I do not put the lens cover on when not in use, or I do not close the LCD display screen). I'll usually power off after completing my shots.
I keep a close watch on the battery meter and switch batteries as soon as it shows a red bar. (Just give it a minute to wrap-up before shutting down). I usually carry a couple of extra charged batteries. A larger (after market) battery that I bought lasted a hour or so, but it didn't hold a charge well after a couple of weeks of use.

Flickering and loss of colour

Problem now solved. I switched the camera on and off a few times and took several test photos. After a few minutes the problem resolved itself. I suspect the cause was condensation, but cannot be sure.

HP photosmart M417

My M417 that I just got at a garage sale works fine but when I put a set of freshly charged NiMH batteries in it will only work for a couple of minutes before the camera will say they are dead and shuts down. When I test the "dead" batteries they each have over 1.25 volts and flow over 8 amps through a dead short (the meter). I have upgraded the firmware. Any ideas?
