Question about Buffalo Technology DriveStation HD-HC500U2 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

I installed TurboUSB on my Mac (running the most current version of Snow Leopard). After rebooting my laptop, the Utility_HD-PXU2 icon still appears, but not the drive icon itself. How do I restore the drive icon and access my saved items?

Do an Archive and Reinstall, this will reinstall Mac OS without affecting installed software or data. See:Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature

Trying to install HP photo smart c7180 on a mac and when clicking on the install icon a message window says power pc applications not supported

What version of system are you using on your mac, it is probably snow leopard (10.6) or lion (10.7). In snow leopard you can run powerpc applications but you need to install the part of the system that runs rosetta however in lion you can not run powerpc applications at all. This web page tells you how to instal rosetta on snow leopard http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/ This webpage at hp will also give you some information http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02911238&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=1153754&sw_lang= Hope this helps.

Hi, Went to the Mac store to upgrade to Snow Leopard and was told my OS was "way too Old to upgrade to Snow Leopard!" Sorry, I'm a numbskull when it comes to these things. Figured as long as...

Apple recommends that if you wish to go from 10.4 to 10.6 then you should purchase the 10.6 Box Set.

System Requirements to run Snow Leopard:
  • Mac computer with an Intel processor
  • 1GB of memory
  • 5GB of available disk space
  • DVD drive for installation
Snow Leopard Installation Instructions:
  1. Just insert the DVD in the optical drive.
  2. Restart your Mac while holding down the C key.
  3. You will be guided through the installation procedure and be prompted at one point to choose which install option you want.
  4. Once the Snow Leopard install is completed the Mac will restart itself.
  5. You will probably be asked to register with Apple upon restart.
  6. Enjoy Snow Leopard on your Mac!
Q: Can I upgrade directly from Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)?

A: Yes. Apple recommends purchasing the Mac Boxed Set for this purpose, which will also update iLife (it is unknown at the time of this writing whether older versions of iLife work with Snow Leopard) and iWork. Also note that while it has been said that the $29 upgrade will work with 10.4, it is not officially supported and may be in violation of the licensing terms.

Q: What happened to the different install options? Can't I do an Archive & Install?

A: Apple has revamped the familiar installation options for Mac OS X. You now have two choices, either a straight upgrade or a clean install. Supposedly if you choose to do a straight upgrade, what actually goes on behind the scenes is what was traditionally known as an Archive & Install.

Q: Is there anything I can do to better prepare myself for the upgrade?

A: Yes. It is advisable to run a Verify/Repair Permissions and Verify/Repair Disk in Disk Utility. You may also want to run the maintenance tasks in Onyx. And finally, it would be wise to get your applications up to date using a program like AppFresh.

Trouble downloading songs from G-3 I phone to powerbook g4

font.f1 {font: 12.0px Helvetica} Thanks for asking your question with Fixya Support. I will be glad to assist you.

If you are experiencing issues with downloading songs from iPhone 3G to your Powerbook G4, there are a few steps you need to check:
Make sure your Mac OS X operating system version is up to date. The most current updates for the current 3 most common Mac OS systems out today: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger: Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Current version) Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Current version) Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard: Mac OS X 10.6.6 (Current version)
If your present version of Mac OS X does not match the current version update listed above for your system, then click on the Apple menu icon in the upper left corner of your screen and select "About this Mac" to verify. • Then close that window and click on the Apple menu icon once again and select Software Updates andrun the updates.
• Once your Mac OS X has been updated to the most current version, then you will need to visit the link below, then download and install the current version iTunes Link: Download iTunes 10 for Mac (for 10.5 Leopard or higher) Link: Download iTunes 9.2.1 for Mac (for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or earlier)
• When you have the current version of iTunes on your Powerbook, then commence to connect your iPhone 3G with your Powerbook and sync your iPhone with iTunes.
I am providing these initial steps to you, due to the limited information I have from you regarding your technical issue, but will be glad to assist you further, if you are unable to resolve your issue with these provided steps.
I hope this helps.
Regards,

My macbook shows a white screen and a sound only and after that nothing happens

JUST TRY TO FOLLOW THE STEPS IT WILL BE VERY HELPFUL
Many computer shoppers choose to buy a Mac not only to use OS X, but Windows as well. That is one strong advantage that Macs have in the Mac vs PC war. Apple computers are capable of running Windows, either through Bootcamp or virtual machines.
So, why aren't Windows PC's capable of running OS X? Well, Windows PC's are capable of running OS X. But, it is against Apple's licensing agreement to do so. Thus, this article is intended for educational and demonstration purposes only. If you want to run OS X the best way possible, get a Mac.
*In order for this to work, your computer must have a processor that supports virtualization. If it does not, you may receive errors. For the most part, any newer processor lines: Core 2 Duo, Quad Core, and Core i7 should all work fine.
But, don't expect to not get errors if you are using an older Pentium 4 machine. The processor must be Intel and not AMD*
Because we will be installing OS X on top of Windows through a virtual machine, the first step is to get some virtual machine software. For this demo, we will be using VMware's Workstation 7.
If you do not feel like purchasing Workstation 7 at this time, you can get a limited trial here. The download may take a good half an hour to complete. Workstation is a 512MB file.
Upon download, go ahead and install Workstation 7 onto your computer. The installation process is very simple just launch the installer, and the VMware installer will guide you through the rest.
One thing to note, when it asks your if you want to do a custom install or a typical install, choose typical install. After the installer finishes, restart your computer
Now that you have Workstation 7 installed, you need a pre-configured VMware virtual machine file to install Snow Leopard on top of. Download this file (alt download) and save it to your desktop.
After you have the pre-configured virtual machine file downloaded, you will need to extract the files using WinRAR or another archive utility. If you do not have an archive utility, you can get WinRAR here.
Note: This file is just a disk image framework, no viruses or anything like that. VMware Workstation uses the disk image format to save and contain virtual machines.
Time to start installing Snow Leopard. Launch VMware Workstation by using the path Start > All Programs > VMware > VMware Workstation. Open up the VMware disk image framework that you just downloaded and extracted.
Select File > Open. Navigate to your Snowy_VM folder, open it, open up the next folder that says "Mac OS X 10.6 Server (experimental).vmwarevm, and choose the 2KB file that is named Mac OS X Server 10.6 (experimental). Click the open button to load the virtual machine.
From the Mac OS X Server tab in the VMware Workstation window, click the edit virtual machine settings icon. You may adjust the hard drive size, memory, etc, to your liking.
Select CD/DVD (IDE) and under the Connection settings, select Use ISO Image File. Click the Browse button and navigate to the Darwin_Snow.iso which is located in your Snowy_VM folder. Click the Open button to select the virtual machine.
Now it's time to power on the virtual machine. Click the Power on this virtual machine option. As soon as the process starts, hold down the F8 key on your keyboard. You should be prompted with a boot menu screen.
If you have not done so already, insert your OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD into your computer's CD/DVD drive. So far, you have loaded a workable virtual machine and framework into VMware Workstation.
Now it's time to actually install Snow Leopard onto that virtual machine disk image. You should see some settings icons located at the bottom right portion of the VMware window. Right-click the icon that looks like a CD and choose settings from the pop up menu.
Go back into the boot screen and select the option C Boot from DVD. Press the F8 button on your keyboard for advanced options and type "-v" without the quotes and hit enter. Now, VMware Workstation should boot your Snow Leopard install disc. It may take a couple of minutes to load
That's all there is to it. You should now be at the normal Snow Leopard install screen. Click continue on the first screen that comes up. On the second screen, click the utilities option in the install window and select disk utility. Use disk utility to change the hard drive format type to OS X Extended (Journaled). Exit disk utility and let OS X install completely.
Upon install of Snow Leopard, your virtual machine will restart. After it restarts you will need to do a couple of things to get into Snow Leopard. Select CD/DVD options, like you did before, and use the Use ISO Image File option.

How can i reformat a mcbook pro without the original cd

If you're talking about your primary drive, you'll need to get a new CD by some means. If you give them your Mac's serial number, they might send you a new recovery disc. If you are running Leopard or Snow Leopard, you can buy a new copy of Snow Leopard for $30. Either way, you'll be able to wipe your drive and reinstall OS X.
If you are talking about a secondary drive, then you can go into Disk Utility (do a Spotlight search).
I hope this helps!

Macbook black will not start beyond the initial 'bong'. Blue screen followed by endless spinning gear. PRAM, SMV reset, no go. Safe mode can't complete. With battery or on power adapter same result....

Hello yang2699tlk,
Try this instead of using your Leopard Disc.

  1. Immediately after the "bong" press and hold down "Command + S".
  2. Wait for blinking cursor and then type fsck -y (exactly like that).
  3. If you receive an "Appears to be OK" then type reboot and hit the return key.
  4. If you receive a "Disk has been modified" then repeat the fsck -y command until you get an "Appears to be OK" then type reboot and hit the return key.

This set of commands entered in "Single User Mode" will repair your disk. If this does not work remove the hard drive, plug it into another Mac and transfer your data to a different computer. Then install a new hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X.

Hope this helps, don't forget to vote. Thanks.

I have a Mac w/Snow Leopard. I cannot get to hp.com\support to download drivers for an Office Jet 7780. The Mac recognizes it as a printer but not as a scanner.

As from this link , the drivers for most HP printers are already built-in to Snow Leopard. Thus, they didn't recommend reinstalling driver from your HP printer CD. Here are some excerpts regarding scanning feature on Snow Leopard from the link: Scanning: The Scanning interface is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application. Instructions follow. NOTE: HP Scan Pro software (from Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5) is not supported in Snow Leopard. The HP icon for HP Device Manager still in the dock after upgrade is not functional and should be removed. NOTE: Scan support from pushing the Scan button on the printer is not supported with this version of the scan interface built into Snow Leopard. Scan functionality is supported by scanning directly from the computer.
** there are methods on how you can scan on Snow Leopard from the link that I've given above. But I'll paste here Method 3:

Method three: Scan from Print & Fax > Printer browser
  1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences .
  2. Click Print & Fax .
  3. In the list of printers on the left side of the dialog, select the HP All-in-One to view the options in the Print & Fax window.
  4. Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner . The Printer Browser window appears.
  5. Click the Scan icon at top right of the toolbar to launch scanning. The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Important Gotcha: If the Scan or Print icons do not appear in the Printer Browser window toolbar, you need to delete the current HP printer queue and add a new one, as follows:
  1. Close the Printer Browser window to return to the Print & Fax preference pane. Or, go directly to the System Preferences > Print & Fax pane.
  2. Select your HP printer in the list on the left.
  3. Click the - sign at the bottom of the list to delete the product from the list.
  4. Click the + sign at the bottom of the list to add the product back to the list.
  5. Select your HP printer, and then click Add to create a new print queue. The next time you open thePrinter Browser window, the Print and Scan icons should appear in the toolbar, providing access to Image Capture.

Driver don´t work (MacOSX Leopard

Here are the steps that you need to take to fix your issue:

1. Uninstall the current Wacom driver via the Macintosh HD on your desktop--->go into the Applications folder and then the Pen Tablet folder and click on "remove tablet". Once you have done the removal you will want to run a "repair disk permissions on your Macintosh HD.

2. The repair disk permissions can be done via the utilities folder on your Mac HD. Go to "disk utility" and then run it. In that program select the Mac HD and choose "repair disk permissions".

3. After that is completed you will get a message that says permissions repair complete!
At this time you will want to reboot your computer.

4. After rebooting you will want to go and install the latest driver from Wacom's website, www.wacom.com The most current driver is 5.08-2 for the Graphire 3 tablet.

That should do it!
