Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a General Electric Refridgerator Model # GSS25MSSE SS, Serial# SH416013, it was working good. Then I attempted to get water or ice cubes from the automatic dispenser, when I push the lever the whole refridgerator turns off. To get it to work again I have to unplug it, now I don't push the lever for ice or water. What can I do to fix it.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. To start with check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve. If still the issue is not resolved then remove the ice bin, Remove the wires from the auger motor. With the freezer door open and the door switch depressed, push the ice cube release and check for 120VAC between the motor wires. If there is 120VAC then the motor has gone bad. If there is no 120VAC then the control board (module time delay) has to be replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

KENMORE COLDSPOT MODEL10652212104 THE FAN IN THE FREEZER DOESNT SEEM TO RUN, DOESNT FREEZE ICE EITHER BUT IT DOES HAVE WATER IN THE ICE TRAY. THE REFRIG PART DOEN GET COLD EITHER WE REPLACED THE VAVLE...

Hi, if the fan, evaporator fan is not running, it has failed on you. If you are up to doing this kind of work, you can replace it your self. It is a 120 volt evaporator fan motor, and if you can get it out, take it with you along with the name of the unit, model & serial # to an appliance parts house to get one. If they don't have the exact one, they have universal ones that will fit. This will solve your problem.

Not making ice. water is getting to the water dispenser but don't know why it is not getting to the ice maker itself. how do i check it/repair it.

Hia and wl;ecome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
We really need a make and model number to provide you with specific unit applicable information but.... in general, here goes:
1. Ice makers must have a freezer temp below 16 Deg F. If there is an airflow problem in the freezer caused by a fan or ice build up the ice maker will no longer make ice.
2. The ice maker has a thermostat that controls the harvest and fill cycle. If the thermostat fails it will stop making ice.
3. There is a water valve in the back of the unit that has TWO electric solenoids on it. One for water in door and one for ice. If a solenoid fails it will stop providing water to the applicable function. I.e water in door or ice. You can briefly remove the fiberboard back cover to gain access to the water valve. Then switch the installed terminal connection between solenoids. Left to right or front to back depending on how it is mounted. Then try the water in door. If water flows to the ice maker when water in door switch is actuated then the solenoid for making ice is good and the probem is with the icemaker. (Reconect wires in original positions.)

Note that anytime you remove power from the unit you must wait 10 - 15 mintues before re-applying power so the coolant system can stabilze. Other wise the compressor will not start.

Here is a web link that will help most people troubleshoot ice maker problems:
http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34

The link above is pretty good.
There is a 48 page job aid also for whirlpool in door ice that is also a big help:
http://adcxns1.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/8527f904cc8ea8cd85256b5800672333/$FILE/4322658A.pdf

This should help you find out why it is not making ice.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Can't figure out how the defrost cycle works... can't get manual online.

All microwave ovens are not designed the same and have different features, the owner's manual is still your best bet in determining how to operate your oven. In addition, you did not include a MODEL NUMBER. All GE microwave are not the same and have different features based on model number.

Have you tried managemylife.com or geappliances.com? Both websites offer an extensive list of owner's and installation manuals. Use your model number for your search criteria.

If you still require assistance, please poswt back with your model number so I can attempt to provide you with better assistance. I hope this help you.

Model # trt18GREW5 ice maker will not make ice, and no water flowing thru valve w/ water supply on and water tube to ice maker disconnected

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} Water doesn't flow unless the ice maker calls for water which it does immediately after dumping the previous load of ice.

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Where can I get a replacement fusible link for a GE Microwave

Hi,

Just had the same problem with my GE microwave. The electric print shows that the reset temperature for this switch NT101 is 32 degrees F. I put mine in the freezer (sitting on a ice cube) over night and the next morning it was good to go. I have not run the microwave extensively since I put it back together, but so far so good.

If you want to buy this part, I believe this link is the item you want. Not too expensive: http://store.appliancezone.com/servlet/-strse-61213/GE-General-Electric-RCA/Detail

Good luck,

Dennis
