Changing motherboard

I upgraded from a 486 ISA based machine to an Athlon XP.
After moving the hard drive to the new computer, the upgrade procedure went
something like.
1. boot machine using old kernel,
2. recompile kernel
3. put new kernel in /boot
4. run lilo
5. Boot new kernel
5. Repeat from (2) to sort out minor problems like, APM support.

This was with my heavily hacked Slackware install.
Note that I didn't have full functionality when I booted the old kernel - I
had no PCI
support and therefore no network card just for starters...

Seconded. As long as you're still running a RH-supplied kernel and it
includes support for your IDE hard disc controller (assuming you're using
it instead of a SCSI controller), then it should all go smoothly.

This isn't Windows. ;-)

Best to take a backup of important stuff beforehand to be on the safe side
though! ;-)

I don't think you'll have any problems.  I don't think there are any
changes necessary to Red Hat.  There's a small chance of DMA not
working without fiddling, but it's small---unless you've compiled your
own kernel, you've probably got one which has suitable support for the
various chipsets.  

If you want sensor support (CPU temperature, fans, etc.) then you'll
probably need to do a bit of reconfiguration.
