Question about Panasonic VIERA TH-65PV500 65 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

My panasonic flat screen plasma will intermittently switch to HDMI input intermittently without touching the remote. This has happened since connecting a panasonic HD recorder. I have not used a genuine panasonic HDMI cable for the connection.

Hi.

This may happen because of a faulty connected device, because of a defective input on TV, or because of a defective HDMI cable.

As first step disconnect TV power cord for ten minutes, so to reset TV, then restart and test the TV with no cable connected.

If this happens only when the recorder is connected, then either the recorder or the HDMI cable is causing the problem.

Pin 14 of the 20 Pins HDMI connector is in fact used to detect if a device is connected and on. If there is a short or a bad contact on pin 14 or on the respective wire, HDMI will keep popping up on TV like if you keep connecting and disconnecting the cable.

If the problem happens with different cables, and with the same DVD unit connected, but does not happen when TV is stand-alone, then the problem is the output from DVD recorder.

If the TV has the problem even with no device connected, or even using different cables, and with any device connected to the HDMI port, then the problem is the terminal board on the TV.
The terminal board is the board that among other function is hosting the Input/Output connectors. The problem is often a loosy solder joint on the HDMI connector pcb, or a faulty connector itself.

In case of TV or recorder failure call the service number listed on Panasonic owners manual, to verify warranty terms or to get a quote on repair.

About the non-Panasonic HDMI cable. As long as the HDMI cable was build and distributed by authorized manufacturer and reseller, this will not affect your warranty status. If I was in your shoes I would not insist on this point with the customer representative if you have to discuss an eventual warranty cover. You risk to get in troubles with warranty validation in case you find an eccessively zealant representative.
Use of other brand's HDMI cables is accepted by manufacturer, and it is quite unlikely that the cable had been causing the fault.

Regards.

Ginko.

Dead hdmi input

you are lucky both hdmi inputs aren't blown. The inputs are not repairable individually. You must take it to an authorized service center. They will probably need to replace the input board.

Panasonic TH-46PZ85U Plasma TV All 3 HDMI was working fine with cable box, PS3, XBOX360. I used to connect my pc to the tv with a dvi-hdmi cable, but recently unplugged it. So I tried to plug in the same...

Symptom:
TV shuts off unless all the input (phono and HDMI) cables are disconnected. The
symptom may be intermittent.
Cause:
There is an abnormal AC voltage entering the TV from one of the input cables or AC
outlet.
Remedy:
Follow the Testing procedure to determine if there is a problem external to the product.

Concept
Constant symptom
If the TV no longer shuts off when all input cables are disconnected, then one of the
input cables is introducing abnormal voltages into the TV. Panasonic Plasma TV sets
have 3 wire AC plugs.
As a result, abnormal voltages introduced into this TV will cause the TV to shut off for
protection.
Intermittent symptom
If the abnormal input voltage is borderline (marginal), the TV shut off symptom may be
intermittent. However the cause may still be detectable with a voltmeter.
Protection Proof:
Release the protect mode - the TV has to be unplugged to reset this protection circuit.

Threats from the HDMI input:
Excessive voltage from an HDMI cable connected product will activate the Plasma TV’s
protection circuitry. Placing an isolating / buffering connector (sometimes called a voltage
conditioner) between the TV and the HDMI input cable often solves the problem.
Testing -
Unplug all the HDMI inputs from the TV. Turn on the TV. Plug in the HDMI inputs one at a
time. The cable that causes the TV to enter the protection state is connected to the product
that has the excessive voltage (and signal). Avoid connecting this product until an isolating
connector is found.

I have only the cable and hdmi hook into my panasonic 42 plasma and i dont get anything that is hdmi is there other cables i need?

Using your input key on the remote should switch you to the other modes. If you cannot access any HDMI or other input labels, go to your menu, and into the Input Labeling menu (under settings) and make sure you have all the inputs you require enabled. Its possible you (or an out of the box error) put these other inputs offline, which is why you aren't able to access your media from HDMI. If all inputs are enabled, and labeled, double check all the HDMI inputs on the unit. Plug what you are using with HDMI into each port, having the power on and sending information to the television. In some rare cases, I've seen that it doesn't allow access to the HDMI without it providing some source information.

Hope that helps.
