Check your firewall settings, and take it somewhere to a public wireless connection to see if it picks up the signal. IF your running say XP, go to start; run; type in CMD and hit enter. At the prompt, type in the following..

ipconfig /release then hit enter.

they type in the following....

ipconfig /renew then hit enter.

Check it then by typing in the following

ipconfig /all

See if it picks up an IP.
Also make sure your wireless is turned on and set properly. Especially if its a DELL Laptop. There are numerous settings in the BIOS for them

My iPad computer iPhone all say connected to wireless but unable to browse internet

Is there any chance that in the last 24 hrs (or whenever your Internet stopped working) that you added a cable box converter to your home network by plugging a LAN/ethernet jack into the back of the box? If you did, that would be the problem.

On your PC, go to the bottom left corner and type "CMD" in the search/run box. This will open a pop-up DOS window. Type "IP config" and hit the enter key on your keyboard. This will tell you the IP address of your computer. You may have to scroll up to see it, but if you're running your computer through a router, the IP address should be something like 192.168.1.xx (the xx stands for a 2-3 digit number that is specific to each device on your network and can only appear once; 2 devices cannot have the same IP address).

If the IP address is something like 192.168.100.xx - then your problem is the router giving your computer an invalid IP address. My network router was doing this same thing and it frustrated the heck out of me. Long story short, much Internet research revealed the problem was because I had my cable box (the one that connect directly to your TV) plugged into my network. As soon as I unplugged it and rebooted my modem and my router, the problem was resolved.

I hope that helps.

I am unable to connect to the internet using a wireless connection (signal strength good) When I use the repair wizzard I get a message telling me unable to renew IO address

If the Wi-Fi access point is a DHCP enable router, you should be able to browse the internet as DNS address will be automatically fixed in the Router firmware.

to check what IP address is assigned and more information on your wireless adapter

go to Command prompt by typing "cmd" in RUN.

type "ipconfig /all" without the quote.

you should be able to see IP address of your wireless network adapter plus default gateway and DNS address which are much needed in order to have internet access.

you can still assigned IP address etc manually.

Go to "Control panel"
Click on "Network and Sharing Center"
Click on "Change Adapter setting"
Now, right click on the wireless adapter and select "Properties"
Select "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and "Properties"

In General tabs, select the radio button with " use the following IP address"

IP address : 192.168.1.x    (if the router IP address is 192.168.1.y)
                                        x=1 to 254, y=1 to 254 but x should not be                                           equal to y )
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Default gateway : 192.168.1.y ( IP address of the Wireless access point)

Preferred DNS address : Ask the Internet service provider

Alternate DNS address : Ask the Internet service provider

Click "OK" twice.

Your Internet should work now.

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.

Somewhere in the network connections settings I recall seeing a checkbox to tell the laptop to automatically determine the IP address when connecting (as opposed to using the same one every time). Sorry I don't recall more specific directions ....
