Question about Sony CMT-HP7 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

CD unit Dear Dan, thank you for your reply, we have managed to get the CD unit out. It appears that what we think is the 'reading head', (underneath the CD unit on a 'hinge' with a circuit board and a laser on it), has a large plastic pin on it which is sitting on a circluar disc/gear above it, (which itself has two pins), and thusly when the circular disc/gear is turning, the pin get caught on the pin on the 'reading head'. If we pull the 'reading head' away from the unit there is no grinding noise. It appears to be out of place as if the pin should be on the inside of the circular disc/gear instead of on the outside, (closer to us than the internal unit). I know this is long winded so sorry for that. Many thanks Kasey

Effectively, the loading me4chanism is out of timing. This unit needs to be rebuilt. Why it became out of time is not important or knowable really. This is not a repair I would attempt without the service manual as these units have a specific re-assembly sequence. That sequence insures that the gear timing is correct.
Good luck.

Before nothing sorry my english is bad i have a cuestion because my mini dont have sound

Thank you for apologising.
Have you checked that the speaker selection is set to the correct speakers? Have you tried radio tape and cd? Have you checked wiring to the speakers? Does the unit appear to be working but producing no audio on either channel? Have you tried headphones?
My guess is it is switched to the wrong speakers.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply and remember, even if you don't vote for me a please and thank you goes a long way.

Cd not spinning

If the unit does not recognise that a disc is present, it won't spin it. Normally, the laser will fire and any reflection will trigger the motor to start spinning so that the TOC can be read. From the sounds of it, the unit is not even recognizing the disc. I would have this unit checked. It is possible that the laser has failed or that the power supply for the laser is defective. In either case, this is not likely to be a DIY repair.

The cd player now wont read the Cd, the tracks

The clicking is the lens attempting to focus on the CD. Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, the optics will need to be replaced.

Teac lp- u200 cd player doesn't work

Sicne this is a new system, don't waste time on it. Return it for an exchange. The CD portion is not working. The reading message indicates that the unit detects a disc, but can not read it. This is usually a problem with the optical assembly or the processing board. Neither should be a problem at this time. Replace it under warranty.

Wont read audio discs

If you used a cleaning disc, try again only this time open up the unit and clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Those cleaning discs rarely work. Let me know if yuo still have a problem.

ER message for CD, Sharp GX-CH150

The optics assembly is having a problem. Either it can not read the disc at all or the disc is not spinning. In any case, the unit will require service. If you can reach the lens, try cleaning it using a cotton swab and alcohol. That may resolve the problem. If not, update this. Please try to see whether or not the disc spins and report that as well.
Thanks,
Dan

Those "cleaning" discs are rarely effective. Open up the unit cna carefully clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Update this if that failes to resolve the problem.

Cd skips

If the unit continues to skip after cleanig the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol, the optics are failing and need to be replaced. These units use Sony optics (KSS-213C I think) and are readily available for $25 or so. Any service shop should be able to replace this for under $100 total.

Mini sharp stereo

Try pressing the play button on the remote. If it works correctly, the play button on the unit may be defective.
