This is a common problem with zumos that I and friends have. It is a real pain but pulling the battery and putting it right back in works. Sometimes for a week sometimes for a month never kno. I wore out the special screw on the battery and went to a 4m plilps hed screw as garmin does not have a screw available.

Best solution i have for you right now is to take battery out and see if it will turn on that way. Seems yours should have a removable battery, so take the battery out and see if it will turn on. If not try turning it on while holding down the reset button which should be someplace on the back, or maybe the bottom. Not sure where. While you have the battery out check the connectors to make sure nothing happened to them and that they are still tight and lining up with the proper pins. Beyond this i have no suggestions.
Hope this works for you and enjoy the trip

You need to back up your waypoints and routes ect., then the a master reset. with the Zumo off, press andhold the lowest right corner of the touch screen while powering it on, keep the touch touch screen pressed until it says something like are you sure. then press yes and follow the onscreen instructions

When I turn my Garmin 550 on it says loading maps, then goes to the select a local: It's frozen their on United States i push OK and nothing happens can not change the Locale it's frozen I tried...

Hi tkfranks331,

Press the power key and hold it if the screen of your Zumo is frozen. Keep holding the power key while pressing the key that has a plus symbol ("+") on it. This will reset your device and unfreeze the screen. You can also try calibrating the screen by pressing the power key for one full minute.

If this does not work, please follow these steps.

1. Update the internal disk software. Download and install WebUpdater on the computer. Please visit this link to download the WebUpdater.

2. Open WebUpdater on the computer.

3. Connect the Zumo 550 to the computer with its USB cable.

4. WebUpdater will automatically search for updates.

5. Follow the prompts to download any pertinent updates for the Zumo 550.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

HI I have Zumo 550 when I first switch it it comes up with can't maps press OK you press OK then starts to work but starts at 1am on the clock and in night time mode after awhile it goes to the right time...

If your zumo 400 or 500 series will not power on, or performs strangely after powering up, follow the steps (described on the Garmin website) below to perform a soft reset:
  1. Connect the zumo to a power source such as a computer or AC outlet
  2. Hold the zoom (+) and ON buttons at the same time for five seconds
  3. If this does not restore power, remove the battery for five seconds
  4. Place the battery back in the zumo
The zumo will now power on. Because the battery may deplete while the zumo is locked up, it is ideal to leave the zumo connected to power to allow it time to charge.
Once the battery has charged, follow the steps on the Garmin site to update the operating software in the zumo. (just copy this link to get there https://buy.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={8576ba20-e948-11dc-d6fc-000000000000} )

Good luck,
Michael

Connection problem between a nokia n95 8gb and zumo 550

I have recently purchased a Zumo 550 and successfully copied across selected phone book entries from a Nokia N95 without the need to use any additional apps:-

1) Assuming the N95 and Zumo are paired via BlueTooth
2) In N95 Contacts - use 'Mark' / 'Mark All' as necessary to select the contact entries you wish to transfer to the Zumo 550
3) In N95 Contacts - select 'Options' then 'Send Business Card' then 'Via Bluetooth'
4) Select the Zumo 550 device from the list of paired Bluetooth devices
5) Contact data is transferred from N95 phonebook to Zumo 550 phonebook

Interestingly, Garmin don't seem to list the Nokia N95 as being a supported device on their website, but the above process worked for me!!

My Zumo would not start after a normal shutdown. I removed the battery and left it for a few minutes, reconnected battery and it started OK. I guess it locked up for some unknown reason.
