Dell powerconnect 2016 seems to have stopped working
Dell powerconnect 2016 has been working for years, suddenly all computers say ' a network cable is unplugged' and I can't fix it even though I have checked all the cables. Our entire network is down
Re: dell powerconnect 2016 seems to have stopped working
Most likly a failed power supply on the switch
look at the front of the switch look for leds,.......
if you see nothing and the power cable is plugged into a hot outlet than
go down to your neerest comp store and buy a new one

By default there isn't one you need to use the serial cable and hook it up the console port and log into it with a terminal program such as hyper terminal or putty
this has happened to me, leave it for a few days and try it, problem happens if it gets corrupt from power surdge it take the caps a long time to discharge around one of the ics with controlls how the ethernet chips work as there are 2 in this one.ic n.o c77331 is the problem leave of for a few days it will reset
Internet -> Port 1 or 16
ComputerA -> Port 2
ComputerB -> Port 3
I say port 1 or 16 because on older equipment there is an uplink port that is usually either the lowest or highest port number depending on the manufacturer. Set both computers IP addresses to use DHCP in this scenario. If you aren't connecting to the internet, both computers need to have their ip address set manually to a number in the same "neighborhood" (i.e. set A to 192.168.1.2 and set B to 192.168.1.3), then they will see each other.
Had same problem with my Dell Pwoerconnect 2016, power it on and all LEDs light up but nothing works. The problem was traced to one or both output capacitors ( 10v 680uf ) on the ( tiny ) power supply. Capacitor symptoms include bulging or rounded tops instead of flat like new one and the rubber plug in base of capacitor protruding. Capacitors need to be replaced. I have successfully replaced with 10v 1000uf and 10v 1200uf, both Rubycon and Sanyo brands. Power to the switch board is now restored and the switch is able to function just fine. Give it a go and see if it works for your Powerconnect. BigAl
