Question about Nintendo Super NES Console
My super nintendo has been acting extremely weird for awhile. Earlier today I went to play Donkey Kong Country 3, and the game wouldn't turn on. The screen was completely black and the power was on and everything was hooked up correctly. I decided to turn the power off, take the game out, put the game back in, and then turn the power back on. It FINALLY turned on after two tries of taking the game out. But when I turned the game on and I got to the main menu, one of my save files had been erased. It didn't really bother me until a couple of minutes ago. I had to turn my game off because I to eat dinner, and then a few minutes ago I decide to turn the game back on to play some more. This time when I get to the main menu, ALL of my saved files had been COMPLETELY ERASED!!! My highest file was at 93% completed, and it just randomly got erased!! I'm so upset. This problem also occurs on all my other Super NES games as well, where one minute I'll have all my saved data, I'll turn the game off for awhile, I'll turn it back on, and all my files will be erased!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!
For the games not starting up - try cleaning the game cartridge card with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.
For the saving feature - some of these games have a button cell battery in the cartridge. I would bet that battery has died and needs to be replaced. You can get a 'gamebit' tool to open the cartridges and SNES off Ebay.

Turning your console on and off *can* erase save game data. This is in the users manual. Intermittent operation on older electronics indicates an internal connection problem somewhere. See if Nintendo can direct you to a fix-it shop, as they no longer service SNES consoles. Failing that, ask local video game stores and rental stores where a good fix-it shop might be.
