Here is the solution:
1. On the main screen, select "options" (wrench icon).
2. Go in "security options".
3. Select "General settings".
4. Click on the button on the left of the trackball.
5. A contextual menu will appear.
6. Select the option "wipe handheld".
7. In the other screen, you have the choice to check a box if you'd like to remove also the third party programs.
8. To confirm your choice, you have to type the word "blackberry".
After that your screen will be black and with a red light still in the upper right corner for a moment. After you will have a white screen with a progress bar. Just let it go. Your BlackBerry will reboot and you are now ready to restart from scratch.

The blackberrys link to outlook and not their own calendar/contact manager. If you have outlook at home, you should be able to use the desktop manager software to sync with that.

how to reset the Curve back to factory state (a complete wipe-out). Please note if you just want to reboot the device, you only need to take out the battery.
To reset the phone back to factory state:
Go to Options -> Security Options -> General Settings
Press the BlackBerry Menu key and select "Wipe Handheld" and type in "blackberry"

This was a problem that perplexed me for a while too. Ultimately I learned that the curve has several different folders for different email addresses. This also includes a message folder for all messages. First go to the Home Screen and press the menu / Blackberry button. Select "Show All". Now scroll through until you see the offending folder indicating there is a message there. Delete that message and you should be back to normal. My problem had been a saved unread message in the saved messages folder that wasn't being displayed initially. That should take care of your problem!

SOURCE: Blackberry Curve 8330 trackball
Under screen/keyboard option there is an area for trackball sensitivity both horizontal and vertical...Increase both and you should be fine.
