Question about ASUS Eee 4G Notebook

1 Answer

My Eee 701 has started playing up, It is running with windows XP with a 1Gb sd card and it was working fine end of last year but have not used it since then until last weekend. I use this as a mobile pc when we are down in Exmouth at our caravan. I only use it to watch items on E bay, the occasional e mail and some simple intenet searching whilst away from home. I normally plug it into mains through the supplied charger. Problem is it will now take ages to start up and often will not complete, when it does start properly I get the correct desktop screen but cannot flip up the bottom toolbar so I can't close down properly. To shut down I have to switch off, then it goes into a loop with box saying it will shut down in 60 secs and restart which it does, so to shut down I have to pull the battery, can't think of any other way to shut down. Can someone help or have any ideas please, Thanks

Virus attack is a possible cause.
Always make sure that your antivirus is updated regularly. And your Windows updates are on. This increases security of your system.
Try booting in safe mode and run antivirus.
Steps to boot in Safe Mode:

  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Then scan your system for viruses through your antivirus.
If this doesn't work then, select Safe Mode with Networking as an option and access internet and update your Antivirus first then, scan your system.
If you have problems in updating your antivirus, please use following link to scan your system, Make sure you are in Safe Mode with Networking while you perform this step.
wish you all the best :)

    Hi

I accidently pressed the post button and could not provide you with the following information.

If you have problems in updating your antivirus, please use following links to scan your system, Make sure you are in 'Safe Mode with Networking' while you perform these steps.

    Macfee

    http://home.mcafee.com/Downloads/FreeSca...

    Norton

    http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/Welco...

This will not remove the virus however will notify you if there are any.
Make sure you use Internet Explorer as it is supported. You may try firefox, but i dont know if it is supported by these links.
If you use the last option , please comment and let me know the report. So that I can provide you with the best possible solution.

wish you all the best :)

I want to install windows 7 on my eee pc 701 and the 32Gb sd card does not show on the boot sequence

SD cards aren't able to boot, they only get activated once the operating system has loaded its driver. You will need to install Windows using a USB drive. To create the drive you will need to use the Microsoft USB tool found here.

Small memory

As far as I know, the Eee PC runs off an SD Card, commonly used in Camera's, just go and buy a 16 or 32Gb one off ebay or something :)
