Question about Whirlpool LER5636P Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Gas dryer, whirlpool commercial grade,

Just today it works, spins, blows air, no heat, its almost ten years old, may just be heating element or gas assembly fuse, not major problems but how do i tell, if i have a repair man come out, how will i be sure I that i do not get ripped off, obviously its not that old and still runs, not sure if i can fix it myself but do not want to have someone tell me theres some major problem when obviously there isnt. and where do i find the make/model on the machine? on the machine itself on top it just says "whirlpool commercial" it was purchased brand new, however warranty expired and i no longer have the origanal papers that came with it. just need to know how to determine the model, and how much a heating element or gas assembly fuse should cost, i have noticed when i clean the lint trap that there is still lint inside, and that could be the source of the problem as well. Either way, if a repair comes out, how much on average should that cost, and how can i be sure they fix what needs to be done and not try to run me for my money, espcially since im a younger, single girl , i know how a lot of mechanics would think i would have no idea what i was talking about. (I only add the semi personal info to stress the fact that i would like to be prepared ) thanks

No heat when drying

I have a Miele WT2780 where the fan motor stops spinning. This will stop the dryer from working even though the element heats up. The failure of the fan will not blow the air across the heating element and thus into the drum. New motors fitted are around £400 min. I am never going to buy another Miele - mine failed after 6yrs.

Another problem is the thermostat can trip. This is a small button inside the machine (TURN OFF MAINS ELECTRIC AND UNPLUG FROM WALL then remove the lid) on the right hand side of the alloy centre channel at the top. It has two wires connected to the switch and in the centre there is a small black button. Press it firmly and it will heat up again. If this keeps tripping then the air duct could be blocked with fluff. This is my next task as mine now trips more frequently so will post back here with instructions.
Update 12/10/16 - problem returned so dismantled top of air duct having removed the lid - tight torx screws - inside chamber was full of fluff. Removed and cleaned - all good now!.

Whirlpool dryer bad heating element AGAIN

Hi Warren Fink
Try this solution to your problem

A vent clogged with lint can cause the dryer to overheat.
Right after replacing a dryer element, always run the dryer on air fluff/no heat, and go outside to verify there's plenty of air coming out your vent system.
If the vent's clogged, that new element can burn out very quickly.

Dryer not hot

Tht means that the element is not heating on.

You need to call a technician to test the element, the thermic sensor, and the control assembly.

The most likely is a defective heating element, that must be replaced.
