A four second transfer time is way too long by at least an order of magnitude. There is no way the power supply in a PC can maintain for that long a time.

If you are in a real critical environment I would recommend going to a UPS which runs continuously and runs off a battery which is charged whenever utility power is available. That way there is no transfer time.
These offline units are harder to find however.

I suspect your UPS system is defective.

My UPS does not start

I'm guessing that during the power outage, the ups battery completely discharged. Now it will take about 14-15hrs to recharge it.It will not support any devices until it is fully charged. Remove all load devices and let the battery restore to full charge before re-connecting the devices. If the battery does not recover, it needs to be replaced.

The unit beeps

I am getting these directly from the user manual (available here:

Issue: On Battery - UPS is supplying battery power to the load connected to the Battery outlets.

Visual Indication: Power On LED - ON (off during beep)

Audible Indication: Beeping 4 times every 30 seconds

Stops When: UPS transfers back to Power On operation, or when UPS is turned off.

- OR -

Issue: Sleep Mode - During On Battery operation the battery power has been completely exhausted and the UPS is waiting for utility
power to return to normal.

Visual Indication: None

Audible Indication: Beeping once every 4 seconds

Stops When: Utility power is restored, or if utility power is not
restored within 32 seconds, or the UPS is turned off.

All other issues are CONSTANT tones, which you did not specify, or there are no audible tones associated with it.

t_sleeswijkv, Your unit may need factory servicing. Could have been hit with a large overvoltage transient spike that may have damaged unit electronics. Give a call to APC or visit their website for more advice on best way to proceed. I hope it never happens to my APC 1250. I did a DIY replacement of 2 batteries in mine back in 2007 because one went bad. If your unit not covered by warranty open it and take pics of what stuff got burned-up or fried. let us know what you find. 12fixlouie on fixya

No power

are there any LEDs illuminating near the switches? if no, this means that the ups is off. switch the ups on by pressing the ON button momentalily until the start of the second beep then release it. the ups will do a self test then it will stabilise after a few second. if it does not come ON, connect the ups to power then attempt to switch it on. if it comes ON then you have to check the integllity of the batteries. if it still does not give power then you have to call the APC service enginneer in your region .

After switching on the power supply, my pc takes around 3-4 minutes to start with APC UPS, earlier it was responding within half a minute

Have you taken it off the UPS and tried connected direct to an outlet.

Does it take the same amount of time?

If so you have a software or hardware conflict that is new and needs to be researched carefully.

try using the windows error log to see if there any startup errors.

I found this on the APC website;
Question: What would cause a Back-UPS Pro, a Back-UPS Pro USB, a Back-UPS RS, a Back-UPS CS, a Back-UPS LS, or A Back-UPS XS to beep once every 5 seconds with no output power?
Answer: One beep every 5 seconds is an indication that the UPS has entered what is called "Low Voltage Sleepmode".
The Back-UPS product has transferred to battery power due to a low voltage condition at the wall. The Back-UPS has remained Onbattery until its runtime was totally exhausted, however, there was still enough voltage present at the wall to trickle charge the battery.

This is considered to be a normal operating state. When the voltage returns to normal the Back-UPS will wake up and restore power to the battery outlets.

Hi there.
They probably had you clear the CMOS jumper or take the motherboard battery out.
The CMOS jumper looks like this >>>>
It is the little piece of plastic next to the motherboard battery, if its there move the jumper to the other (on) position for 5 seconds.
If there is not a jumper there take the motherboard battery out for an hour making sure the power cord is removed from the back of the machine.
Please post back if you need anymore advice.

Good luck
