All my pc's and laptops are high end and new. Very fast.. But I think there is some sort of a cap on these speeds; by ISP?.

  • Raphael Josiah Apr 26, 2010

nb. The speed of my internet is VERY fast. I have no problems surfing. I just need to configure it to DOWNLOAD faster. The 1MB speed seems to be there in browsing because when I take my laptop to a friend's home with a slower connection, streaming videos and songs buffer longer. With mine there is hardly any "buffering" at all.

I think you have a router is that right? so if you have a router what you can try to do is to access the router setup page and then change the MTU value of your router to 1400 and then don't forget to save the settings and then restart the router and then after that check if the speed now is fast, but don't expect that behind a router you wont get the 1MB speed of connection since your router has a firewall for security purpose that's the reason why the speed is slower when you're behind a router.

Then if you're concern about the download you can do the steps that I told you and also if you use some particular downloading software you will fine ad a settings there to allow or to set a high priority to your download so the speed will increase.

Need to download an update for my modem soniq cwr150ns

Go to your modem web page i.e. "192.168.1.1" with username : admin and password: admin(default) and Check the version of firmware installed and then check if update is available on internet. If yes you can download the update else switch to new modem.
Before switching to new modem ask you ISP to provide configaration so that you can have max speed with your modem.

How do I improve my broadband connection or download speed (aka Access Line...

The Access Line or Connection (download) speed is the speed of your Broadband connection between the local telephone exchange and the wireless router. This is the speed that Broadband is able to provide into your home rather than the actual speeds that you experience when using the internet. This download speed is typically twice the speed of your available upload speed.

Be careful all the major ISP's will test your line and come back to you will a max speed of about 3MB (3072 kbps OR 384 kB/sec) and sell you the product on this basis I have never got anywhere near this tested value. If you divide the tested value by 1/3 this would be a more reasonable speed.

For example if your ISP is able to provide you with a 1MB connection your maximum download speed will be 1024 kbps, in reality you will never reach this due to exchange limitations a connection (download) speed of 900 kbps (0.8MB OR 112 Kb/sec) would be more realistic and 350 kbps (0.35MB OR 44 kB/sec ) for uploading.

If you browse outside the peak period your speed will increase. However It will reduce significantly during the peak period from 5pm to 12am. If you want to download large programs or files, try doing this overnight or at a different time of the day.

Clearing your cache won't make you browse faster it is a collection of files which record your activity on the internet. These files are usually stored in your computer's Temporary Internet Files folder.
They can make browsing the web faster, as loading a page you've visited before is quicker if your computer has kept a record of images and other components within the web page. Clearing these files away can free up space on your hard drive and resolve certain problems you may experience while browsing like slow browser speeds !!

Tweaking your TCPIP can help here is a reg tweak that will optimize your registry WRT your TCP parameters; internet caching and simultaneous downloads.

Test your actual connection OR download speed here and e-mail it to yourself you can also set it to create a graph of your download times it will also show you a comparison of you and a typical value from your actual service provider, you will never get any where near this I use Sky Mid at the moment and I max out at on a 1MB line about 900kbps (112kB/sec) they say sky should offer you 2827kbps (354 kB/sec) which would be 80% of a 3MB line.

http://testmy.net/speedtest/download_broadband_test.php

Smart test based on your connection speed =>
http://testmy.net/dl-96

If you start the automatic test and leave your PC on for 24 hours you will see at what time your connection will max out, the results are stored if you become a regsitered user, this link will test upload and donwload ( this is your line speed) in kbps (kilobits per second)

http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/scheduled_test.php?r_time=1

when finished to you can download the results to a csv (comma separated value) and import into Excel to see a pretty graph if you like.!!!!

N.B.> Make sure you close down VoiPs and Torrents and anything else that will sap you download speed before you do this test also I recommend rebooting your router to gain the optimum results

I have Asus RT-G32 and it works max 10 mbits. How can I change it's speed to 54G

its your ISP that limits you. you probably have a 54G connection between you and your router and a 10mbits connection to the internet. so, when you run a speedt test you show 10mbits...

your service is working fine...

and FYI: when you do a download and it says your downloading at 56k or something that has nothing to do with you or your ISP, thats how fast the person hosting the file can send it to you.

yup, the internet is one bottle neck after another!

How to get internet speed fast ?

What sort of internet do you have ? The speed of an internet connection is designated by your ISP Internet Service Provider contract if you are having problems with slow internet contact them about upgrading your contract. Hard Wired Ethernet ADSL2 is much faster than Wireless When your ISP offers you a 1Mb connection, its MegaBits not MegaBytes. So for a rough guide of how MUCH you can download, divide by eight. i.e. 1Mb speed = 128KB of data.

So its normal for you to get 1.0-1.10 mbps download speed for the 10MBps connection that you have

To check your bandwidth, simply click on the download link. You might have to many programs trying to or accessing your computer or the internet at the same time or a Virus or Malware Scroll to bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click select task manager applications you will see whats running If you see anything you dont need running select end now and you might uninstall that specific program if you or computer does not require it to run. And uninstall some unnecessary programs that could be jamming up your computer also under processes see what is ticking over in the background again if you see something you don't need to be running select end now and users you will see who is using your computer

When purchasing any ram you should always ask if they can guarantee compatibility and try to purchase working pairs First you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system
