Question about Dryers

Humming Noise When Start Button Pressed

When the start button is pressed, I hear an audible humming noise and the drum does not rotate. Immediately try again and I get the same problem. Come back in 1/2 hour and it works fine (ie. starts the cycle normally and drum rotates). At this point the problem is still intermittent. I am not 100% sure, but it might be that the motor has to cool down before it will start again. I haven't tested this theory out yet.

The drum rotates freely. The dryer is approx. 3 years old with no prior problems. I had the front cover off last week and vacuumed out the lint and used compressed air to blow lint off the motor. Could it be that I blew some lint into the motor and screwed it up? It could be coincidence? Seems like the starter winding in the motor is getting weak, or do they use a starter capacitor?

I have a Kenmore elite washing machine and when I power it on it goes on . then I push the start button and I hear a humming noise and the timer is flashing . Please help.

oh oh a humming noise usually not a good sign, and usually is from a bad motor with windings that have gone out. in ur case u may be hearing what u think is a humming noise? but in reality may be a bad push start button which can sound like a hum but is more of a buzzing sound

Model # 72852 Burning smell Drum does not turn but a humming noise When door is closed it hums without the start button being pushed.

f you hear the motor humming and not starting at all it most likely has a severe friction problem with the drum or motor. It could possibly have some type of garment jamming the blower wheel preventing the motor from starting too.

Open the dryer door and manually rotate the dryer drum counter clockwise (CCW). It should take very little effort to rotate the drum. If it's hard to rotate that could explain why the motor hums instead of starting up. If it turns freely, shut the door and see if will start. If it still hums and not start it may have bad motor or a low voltage supply to the motor.

Drum not turning, hear humming noise

the humming noise is from the motor, see if you can spin the drum by hand,if it moves you have a bad motor,if it's hard to turn you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or the belt is jammed somewhere, the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into

Dryer wont start when start button is pressed, but humming sound

I'd sure start by making sure the belt isn't broken. You can usually see the belt with a flashlight after accessing the panel (some are in front, others in the rear) - don't go probing around bare armed without unplugging the unit....

Try pushing start button while turing drum clock wise and see if drum will start spinning, sounds like bad start winding or relay
