Question about Dishwashers

4 Answers

I have a dishwasher and the lid to the soap won't release and my dishes aren't getting clean if I just pour the soap in. It's a whirpool Model #DU810SWPQ0 Type 280-0. Can I just buy a replacement part or do I need a whole new dishwasher?

There was no wax motor on my dishwasher. When I took it apart I saw how the dial works, but can't figure out why it's not opening the soap door.

  • whitski101 Apr 27, 2010

I need to know what replacement part I need to buy.

  • whitski101 Apr 28, 2010

I've received a few suggestions about replacing the part, but I don't know what part to replace because the first suggestion didn't say and the second suggestion included the manual for a different model.

Hi,

Yes you should be able to purchase a new combi dispenser and not a new dishwasher. you should be able to find a local whirlpool supplier through the internet. This is provided the unit is not too old for spare parts.

Firstly i would check to see if there is power to the solenoid which releases the soap flap. you would have to remove the outer door panel and you should then see the cables going to the combi dispenser. using a multi meter you can check to see if there is voltage. you can start the unit and watch it go through the cycle. put the unit on a quick wash or short wash and once the unit starts circulating water it should then send the signal (voltage) to release the flap as the next stage is to heat the water. if you get voltage and the flap doesn't open it must be a mechanical problem like the flap is stuck. if you don't get voltage at all during the cycle then the electronic unit is probably faulty.

Hope this helps

You can switch to tablets which you just place in the machine and not in the soap dish, or you can get a replacement part. If your machine is more than three years old I recommend replacement over repair. Joe

Your dispenser may be damaged. Parts are replaceable.
This manual should help in diagnosing the problem.

Dishwasher does not clean dishes. Some soap remains in soap dish. Have tried on the enrgy saver cycle and 1 hour cycle.

Hi jerry1413,

Firstly, make sure you are using powdered soap, and not the 3 in 1 tablets. The 3 in 1 Tablets only release certain parts of itself on certain temperatures, and because all dishwashers aren't alike, they won't have the best of results on all makes & models. Cycles aren't run the same way on every Make, and don't follow the same order either. Trust Me ;-) , stick to Powder.

Furthermore, check the following link for some advice and suggestions on getting your dishwasher to clean properly again:

Kind Regards :-)

Due you use liquid or powder soap and fill both soap compartments !!!!ow

well here is a solution first stop using to much soap!!!
most people only need no more than a tablespoon of soap.... powder or liquid..total... dont forget that powder soap can go bad in those card board boxes in a humid enviorment,,,( under the sink) remove and discard any soap that's clumpy and pour rest in a tupperware dish...

so here is how to remove white residue off dishes...

Fill your kitchen sink with hot water no soap and 1 cup of vinegar let dishes soak dont let water cool scour dishes in sink no soap rinse them and air dry all dishes .... some dishes may be ruined due to how long white residue had been on them called etching..... now we need to clean the dishwasher start dishwashere like normal no soap and let run for few seconds when dishwasher starts to fill open door and pour in atleast 2 cups of vinegar close door and let dishwasher run cycle repeat necessary till residue is of wash arms racks door and cabinet walls ... these steps need to be repeated in most cases a few times ...

Bosch SHU3305 keeps running and doesn't clean dishes. Soap doesn't release.

you may need to replace the soap dispeser assembly which includes the solenoid that operates the lid.

See this diagram part 13. You may be lucky and it could only be the lid spring that is faulty. In which case you do not have to replace the whole assembly.

Good luck..

Where do i put the salt

Hello Maria,

The salt goes in the salt compartment in the base of the washing compartment. Unscrew the lid of the salt compartment (counter-clockwise), pour in salt until the compatment is full or nearly full then screw the lid back on firmly, but do not overtighten it.

belectric_138.jpg
If the dishwasher is new and you are using it for the first time, pour about 1 litre of cold clean water into the salt compartment before adding the salt. If you spill any salt or the water spills over the top of the salt compartment, it will wash/drain away the next time you use the washer.

The most important thing is to only use dishwasher salt. The salt is used for water-softening and only salt sold specifically for dishwashers can be used for this purpose.

The picture above is from a Bosch dishwasher. You may have another brand or model of dishwasher, but the salt compartment will still be in the base of the washing compartment and will have a cap which you unscrew as above.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please let me know the brand and model number of your dishwasher.

Regards,
BElectric

Dishwasher soap dispenser does not release(sometimes partially)and as a result dishes are not cleaning

Hi,

the solenoide which pops open the soap lid may be faulty.

Better to poar your dishwashing powder or tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher tray until you get the machine repaired. You may want to do a prewash rinse first, then stop the machine and add your soap.

Make sure not to use too much soap. Just the normal amount as you would use in the soap dispenser.

Dishs have soap flim

If your dishwasher has been in use for a period of time, you may need to clean the interior of the washer.
The next time you are at the grocery store, pick up (2) containers of "Tang" orange drink. With no dishes in the dish washer, fill the soap container with Tang, close the lid and poor the remaining Tang in the bottom of the dishwasher.
Close the door and run through your regular wash cycle. You may have to repeat this with the second container if it is an older model washer.
The citric acid in the Tang will clean the soap scum off the inside as well as the pump chamber inside the washer.
Good luck, it worked for me, cleaned it nice and shinny and smells good too.

Left over soap residue in glasses

you need to flush out the dishwasher, fill a cup with vinager and put it in the dishwasher standing up, then run the dishwasher thru a heavy duty cycle with no dishs. Then cut back on your soap, with new dishwashers and soaps you dont need much at all

My whirlpool dishwasher soap dispenser is apparently not opening during cleaning. I find dirty dishes and clumps of soap in the hopper. Whirlpool quiet partner II

I bet your clumps of soap began with the beginning of the use of a different DW detergent powder.

Try this (trust me) Go buy a box of brand name Dishwasher powder (e.g. Electrosol or Cascade) Use it for two loads of dishes and report your results back here. OK?

If you are you using a liquid soap or packets that will be the main problem. If your unit fills with water circulates the water and drains the water, and also heaters are working then you probally need to change to cascade powder soap. The film on the dishes is soap. The unit has so much build up in it that when it gets to the rinse cycle it is rinsing dishes with soapy water. You need to get 2 medium bowls fill both 2/3 up with white vinager, place one in upper rack and one in lower rack and run unit on longest cycle letting the vinager splash out during wash.do this with no soap and no dishes.Having soft water will allow you to use less soap.

UNDISSOLVED SOAP RESIDUE AND

I have the same dishwasher and kept having soap still in the dispenser at the end of the wash. Someone mentioned this, but what was happening is that the soap dispenser lid was blocked from fully opening by the top rack. You also typically have large pans in this area, so the water spray is blocked from getting under the half open lid well. I started opening the dishwasher after I heard the dispenser latch release, so the lid could fully open. After that, I had no problem with soap still in the dispenser. I started setting a timer to open and shut the dishwasher door about 20 minutes into the wash process (after the latch had released for the 2nd wash cycle), so the soap dispenser lid would be fully open. This was a pain, but it worked. The other thing to be careful of with this dishwasher is to ensure you have pushed the top rack in tight before closing the door. Look at the water connection for the top "spinner" and you will see how the plastic pipe fits up to the supply. If you don't have the rack pushed in tight, you get leakage around the connection and don't get good water spray from the top spinner arms. This can definitely affect the quality of the wash. You mentioned the dispenser lid is open when the cycle is complete, but that is because once you open the door it can fully open.
