Question about ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard

1 Answer

5N32 SLI SE Deluxe board no POST

I have a P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe board which has recently gone belly-up on me. With absolute basic peripherals set up - PS, board, cpu + fan, 1 ddr2 stick and pce-e vga card, the board will no longer start upon jumping the power switch jumpers. Instead, if i turn on the power supply box, you can hear the power going through it, but to get the board to start i actually need to switch the power supply OFF, listen for when the power box sound winds downs (about 4-5 secs) then switch it back on before it is inaudible. The board will then start, but it will freeze up when the pci-e card fan powers up - usually it powers the fan full speed then slows down before bios shows up. But now the vga card stays on full fan with no BIOS.

ANy ideas?

Thanks in advance

    Also worth noting:

There are also no speaker beeps.

    Have tested the
power supply, CPU, memory and VGA card with a brand new Gigabyte board
    and works perfectly.

    The board has
recently started causing issues when i changed memory to DDR2 800
Kingston memory (8gb). I had to run it at about 667 to boot properly.
Worked fine for 6 months with the bios occasionally failing due to
overclocking issues (it wasnt overclocked, it was underclocked), but
then before the board failed to boot at all, it reached the windows
startup but then the power would switch off. I had to keep restarting
until it decided to stay on - it was temperamental.

I have tried clearing the CMOS by using the jumpers and by removing the
battery or days, still nothing. Have also used multiple sticks of memory
    as well.

Thanks for the response, but what exactly am I supposed to be looking for?

It doesn't make sense that it won't work with minimal devices/hardware attached... It is also a thermaltake 430W PS.

    Thanks for your response.

But what exactly am I supposed to be looking for? It doesn't make sense that it isn't working with minimal devices attached.

Also, the PS is a Thermaltake 430W, and never had issues with it in the past, only recently. As I said, it works fine on the new board...

Check your power supply voltages. All of them!

You can find a list through google for connector pins.

Look for ATX power connector.

Since you have checked the supply running another board it probably is OK.

This sounds like the CPU chip has degraded. This can happen as the atoms of material can migrate a bit and cause the chip to fail. If the chip has ever lost the cooling due to dust clogging the heatsink for instance, thaat can cause it to fail.

The behavior you describe would indicate a CPU chip failure.

As a test, you might freeze the board and then quickly try it. There are so many parts on these boards that can fail and the CPU is the only replaceable one.

Hi,
Are you able to enter into the BIOS settings by pressing DEL?
If so, load default settings in the BIOS and try booting up again.

Best wishes,

Constant restarting with my asus p5n32-sli deluxe motherboard

Hi,

These boards have reknown faults, usually regarding Bios errors and memory slots on the motherboard. try removing ram, and trying in different slots. Or if your using a matched pair of memory modules. use 1 only in slot A1 or B1. Finally is to check the bios setup, to ensure that all the bios defaults are set.

If this advice resolves your problems, please rate as fixya.

Many thanks mike @ compurepair.

Different products have different warranties, so once you contact them they should be able to tell you how long your warranty was. I have looked up a few motherboards for sale by them and they have 3 year warranties.

Here is there information:

New Installation P5N32-E SLI

There is also a 4 pin power connector cable for the processor to connect onto the motherboard. Make sure that is plugged in. IF that still doesn't help, disconnect hard drive, video card, cd rom drive and floppy drive and any other pci cards in the system. Try booting it again at least to the bios. See if that helps.
